They just announced that Adam Baldwin will no longer be able to attend, however they did add James Callis to replace him. In addition to him they also have Aaron Douglas, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict. Still a decent BSG lineup but really bummed that Adam is not going to be able to make it. Might just wait for Dragon Con now.
Well, they just updated their guest list today. They had at one time on their list James Callis, but he has canceled. Not only that, but Dirk Benedict and Aaron Douglas have also canceled.
Pretty much totally gutted their guest list.
Luckily they only have a little over a week to remove more major people from their guest list.
They did however add a bunch of secondary characters from movies…
Was being billed as a 30th anniversary celebration of BSG. They went from five Re-imagined and OS actors down to two. Luckily Richard Hatch is still going to be there.
Anyone from the Dallas area planning on going?
Unfortunately I am not close enough to join you.
I can say I am sure that if the BSG guest could make it they would. I know from another cancellation (Aaron had to cancel Wrath of Con last weekend) that they are in the home stretch of filming and are not letting the actors have time off for ANY thing.
Yup, and Aaron at least explained it to the attendees or something. There was a quote from a post on another forum. No explanation whatsoever to FedConUSA. I guess that would mean that Dirk Benedict might be appearing in BSG in the later part of the season since he canceled also.
FedConUSA has had way too many cancellations at this point for people not to think there is something hinky going on there.
Now it appears that Aaron and James are going to be there.
Since the hotel does not have Sci-Fi channel Aaron has offered to bring a DVD and he and James want to hang out and watch it sometime Friday night with the fans. Obviously, this would be most excellent.
Still no word on Dirk Benedict though, continuing to fuel my speculation that he is Starbuck’s dad and as such is out filming.
And Aaron just confirmed on the message boards that he has a copy of last weeks episode and this weeks episode to share. All he is asking is for a $1 donation to his charity (of course I am sure people would be more then willing to donate that and more).
Now they are just looking into a room to have it

There has been much drama about whether he was coming or not. At the moment it appears that him and James will be attending. Have fun, I am sure the two of them will be a blast, and makes me look forward to D*C even more.
Yes, that is the whole scenario that I was referring to.
There probably would not have been so much drama had this not been a Creation-lite con and more of a fan run con. In other words, if it wasn’t such an investment to go to I don’t think people would have been so upset.
Just hope these guys get a clue and don’t try to hold another con at D/FW Airport. You can tell those guys are not from the Dallas area.
It is sad that it has been so messed up. I know it started out being supported by FedCon, the company that ran the one in Germany that I went to. But they pulled out sometime ago because of all of the issues, in fact this will be the only con to carry the FedConUSA banner.
The one in Germany very well organized, even if I didn’t speak the language. The only issue I saw at the FedCon event in Germany was the way the autographs were done, but some of that had to do with the limited time some of the guests could be there.
Of course I was spoiled by my D*C experience - getting autographs and interacting with the stars is SO much easier there then the other cons I have been to. I think the next closest was London, and again that was a bit weird because of Jamie only being there one day, otherwise I think it would have been much smoother.
Well, for good or bad, Audra and I will be there with Steve (and a few other local-area GWCers) with the Viper sim. We’d hoped to put some more time into it, but we just didn’t have the chance – so it’s pretty much as pictured in PopSci.
I’m sure we’ll catch some crap about it – it’s not a special-effects rig, just something put together by a couple of fans to enjoy the game a little more. But we thought it’d be fun to give others a go at it.
That seems to be the major difference between a fan run con and a Creation-type con. Access to the stars. Well, and cost.
FedCon Germany backed out back in Aprilish I think.
I will probably be at FedConUSA all weekend. Hope some more folks from the forums are going.
ETA: Hah, Chuck snuck in there. Guess that cat is out of the bag now.
Well if I lived closer I would definatly be there, but alas I an way up here in the NE.
But I am going ot a con in a few weeks in Baltimore to see Mark Sheppard, his dad, Leah Cairnes (yes, I am going to see them again - but this one is in back yard, how can I not), George Takei, Malcom McDowell and Jewel Staite (and some Stargate people I don’t really know), so I guess I can’t complain too much.
You still planning on D*C?
Well as I said above - I wish I could join you. Darn airfares
I think the Viper sim is cool, and I bet you won’t get as much flack as you think you will. You’ll have to make sure you show it to Aaron - he’ll probably get a kick out of it.
Take lots of pics (I am sure Michelle from Aarondouglasfans.com would love to have them).
That sounds like a nice con.
Yup, we’re still planning on DC at this time. Trying to get the finishing touches on a costume now for the wife which she will hopefully be able to wear to FedCon this weekend.
Cool, I can’t wait to meet you guys. Once we get a little closer we will have to figure out places/times to meet-up. We (the bunnies - there are like 18 of us + 9 hubbies planning to go) have started to plan somethings. We are putting together our own little bunny track of things we may all want do as a group.
But that being said we need a lot more of the tracks to post their plans, but that doesn’t happen until like early August.
If you guys have any questions or want any advice let me know. D*C is definately an experience.
Why didn’t I know about this? I think my crew has gone daft… Oh well…there’s always next time…
You without a doubt did not miss anything. Except for drama.
Did get the wife’s deck hand costume mostly finished. Did find out that I need to make some modifications to it.
This was pretty much after everything had shut down…
Steve (et al),
Can you give us the inside story? How did this go down from your perspective? Did you show up and the doors were locked? What are some of your first-hand stories of reactions…or was this expected?
BTW: Great costume!
Duct tape. Nice.
Naw, doors were open when we got there. Hotel staff was awesome.
Rumors of dealers wanting to pull out on Saturday night at the latest.
General overall disorganized feel.
Lots of schedule changes since most of the scheduled guests were not there.
Not just a whole lot of attendees.
Richard Anderson swapped out his dress shoes for tennis shoes on Saturday. Still wore a suit though. He was running back and forth trying to keep things going as best as he could.
They interrupted John Billingsley’s Q & A session to let the people know that the con was over but that the guests would stay and sign pictures and stuff as long as they could.
WE had fun, even though we could see the inevitable.
We loaded up and were out of there shortly after noonish sometime, don’t remember exactly.
I did get a free FedConUSA shirt though…
From what little of the con that did go right I could tell this would have been a most excellent convention had it been placed in the correct hands to get it organized and make it happen.
Met one volunteer that had flown from Austria to be there, at her own expense of course. Pretty sad.
Folks had a lot of fun playing with the simulator and we met a lot of nice people.
