dear Hive mind,

I figure it’s time to give ourselves an upgrade. Here’s a purview of the suggested ranking system I’m putting forward for your approval :

< 10k posts = Alpaca
10,000 posts = OG
15,000 posts = Lieutenant OG
20,000 posts = Uber OG
21,000 posts = Uber OG 2nd Class
23,000 posts = Uber OG 1st Class
27,000 posts = Uber OG Technical
30,000 posts = Rear OG
33,333 posts = Master Chief
40,000 posts = Big Honkin’ <insert username>
45,000 posts = My 'lanta! It’s <insert username!>
50,000 posts = President of the United Federation of Galactic Watercoolers
50,001 posts = Hill-billy

FYI, it’s our official policy not to use a ranking system. The whole OG thing happened as a total accident – as in I was playing with the ranking system to try and use it for something the vBulletin people never imagined, and I forgot to remove the “OG” that I’d put in for the 1k post level. (I selected the 1k post level since I figured – at the time – that no one would ever post that much.)

Fast forward a while and it turns out that someone did, and it scared the crap out of all of us. We were sure someone’d hacked the system. As is, it was just my stupid test. It was kinda funny, so we left it in.

Anyway, definitely no ranking system here. You don’t have to have a large number of posts to be special or important to your fellow GWCers. We’re all alpacas hereabouts.

maybe we could do a thing like award a …well … what to call it… a flying saucer, Saturn looking, swooshi thing, ( you know, that thing at the top of the page just under the letters GWC.)

Maybe Solai could award a gold one of those for things that are exceptional in the realm of GWC… Purely subjective on his part, But it would be for things that are really cool. Not something you earn, but something that gets awarded. And you would not want to many flyin around… just really cool stuff. And you could add it to your sig as a badge of honor.

We should ask Sean about that flying-saucer-saturn thing. It looks like a great ball of fire! (where’s the other one? heheh)

ooo, that reminds me of this Robert Redford movie, The Castle. Ex-soldiers in military detention aren’t allowed to salute, so they come up with this coy substitute of hand gestures. Have you guys seen it?

I’ve seen it. They also make up their own ranks since prisoners don’t have ranks.

I see that “swooshi thing” as a spiral galaxy. :smiley: I don’t think we need to change the ranking system or have any special awards. The forum is fantastic just as it is.
