You have a lawn, Pike? Do they grow those up in Baltimore?
Favorite character in SciFi…hmm…well, I haven’t done enough reading in the genre to go that route (although Mua’dib in the first Dune book is someone who comes to mind as a favorite), so I’ll stick to visual media. Hmmm…
Gaius Baltar (BSG) He’s, to me, the most human of the characters (yes, more than even–ironically–Tyrol). His arc has been fascinating and heartbraking and even though he’s ostensibly the villain, I find myself constantly rooting for him to rise above himself and do the right thing.
Wash (Firefly) This one’s fresh on my mind having just watched the entire series. His witt, bite and charm make him a most memorable character and someone who reminds me of how I would probably react were I in the situations the Serenity’s crew were to find themselves in. Like Baltar, he’s a very human character.
R2D2 (Star Wars) I was going to say Han Solo, because I always wanted to be him as a kid, but R2 is definitely my favorite character in that series. He’s chipper, optimistic and always willing to go above and beyond. And he looks like a trash can and can fix your car.
H.A.L. (2001: A Space Odyssey) Like Baltar and Wash, a very (ironically, and very much intended as such) human (I detect a trend…) and poignant character. His “death” scene is heartrending, and it’s just a guy turning off a computer.
