I was just making a joke about Geordi and Data.
I mentioned to him that there are gay characters in Non-cannon Star trek. And in a few novels they throw in little lines like " this is the part of DNA that determins ht, hair color, eye color, sexual prefrence, and body type". But he doesn’t care. First off, he’s a cannon star trek fan. He watches movies and shows but never rpg’d or reads novels. He is on a crusade.
As for the Geordi and Data thing, Travis ( my bro) swears to it. ( but you can bring up Jesus or Napolian and it all goes back to “their Gay” with him.) He also says that Kirk is a womanizer because he’s gay, James Bond is a womanizer because he’s gay, and Kirk and Spock are really a forbidden love gay thing. He’s kinda nutz with that kinnda stuff. I am pretty sure that writers hand an actor dialoge, they act it and that’s as deep as it gets. I am pretty literal in my interprataions of characters.
If the writers tell us directly about a character’s motivations and desires… I accept it. I don’t really try to figure characters out. ( I have listened to Ron Moore speak too many times about how characters change and do 180’s in on writers meeting. He admitted that Tigh being a cylon came out of a season three writer’s meeting. So when we geeks go back to season 1 and 2 to put together clues… we’re just being stupid. There aren’t clues because at the time he officialy wasn’t a cylon. Anything you find… is just your imagination… and literaly isn’t a clue. Clues’s are intentional.
BTW, my bro was sooooo pissed when malcolm from Enterprise wasn’t gay. He had all this pretend proof that he was… until they made him not gay and the actor said that he wasn’t to Travis’s face when he asked him at a con. Travis practicaly called the actor a homophobe for his adimate denial of Malcolm’s sexualy.
I don’t get it. I am an american white guy. I didnt burn a lot of calories getting pissed watching Ds9 because there were no american white guys on the show. It’s star trek… I just wanted to see a cool crew explore space and interact and stuff.
Hah! I didn’t even realize there weren’t NAWGs (North American White Guys) on DS9. Now I feel neglected.
Anyhoo, send this link to your bro. If he bitches about canon, tell him that it’s essentially the David Gerrold episode that the network vetoed. He’ll watch it. (It’s actually pretty good, excepting a couple actors.)
I actually never thought of it until my buddy pointed it out. I am not really into that kida thing, and don’t really understand those that are. It’s fiction people!!!
I Am watching that show that you passed that link for. Man this is pretty cool. I mean it’s hard to think of these guy s as kirk and and the crew, but it’s good. If they were playing original characters… I would think this the most baddass thing ever!

Yeah, the revamped characters are the toughest part to swallow, but you get used to it. It’s weird that the minor characters are some of the best actors on set (DeSalle in particular.)
My favorite fanfilm is Starship Exeter, which has new characters in a TOS setting. It’s really good, but the last act of the second episode has been delayed forever.
I had to vote picard since I grew up as a kid Watching the Next Gen.
