Farscape News

Just saw from The Watcher over at The Chicago Tribune, there will be a Farscape panel at SDCC.

In more exciting news, also included in the article is a neat little press release announcing a mega DVD box set for the entire series. So it looks like this will be easier to watch (legally) than it has been!

I had the whole series then found that I had sent Starburst 1.1 disc two back to Netflix on accident and they never reported it. This volume is luicrously expensive now and out of stock at legitimate retailers.

Luckily, and by freak coincidence, I found the old volumes of the show that had my missing episodes, allowing me to watch the entire show without forking over one hundred extra dollars.

It’s a good show, and it’s great to hear they’ll bring out a big package so fans can support it further, though I’m not interestined in forkingo ver even more money for a nice set unless it’s like fifty bones.

I’d like to add Farscape to my collection. The DVDs are unbelivably expensive at the moment.

The thing I’m liking about this is, Netflix may finally have the first season available again with this! The box set itself will probably be out of my price range for the time being.

When netflix can only offer seasons 2 and 4, you know its pretty bad.

I wonder if they will charge 100 bucks per dvd like they did last time.

I have always liked Farscape but I have never understood why their marketing people keep making it nearly impossible for fans to buy the DVDs. First they came out with those four episode single dvds that cost like $25 bucks. Then when I had almost all of season one they came up with individual seasons box sets for like $80 and then took that away for the combined season boxed sets for over $100 and then just as I got enough money to buy them they pratically vanish from the shelves. I mean I found season one of Hex at Borders but Farscape was not only nowhere in sight but I couldnt even special order it. That is when I took the stance that I did with the Star Wars movies and decided to not buy the dvds til they came out with them all in one boxed set. However, with the way the economy is and their knack of pricing things out of the range of fans affordability, I doubt I would be able to buy it.

mega set sounds awesome… and only for 899.99

I completely agree! I really want to get into the series, but not enough to make me want to pay what people are charging for it on ebay and I can’t even Netflix half of it.

Looks like the box set will be out in November. I have a feeling a GWC rewatch will shortly ensue as well …

You really have to wonder WTF Sci Fi is thinking with this series. The first two seasons were available here, but now the first season is gone. AFAIK, no full episodes are available to watch online (legally, at least) anywhere else, so now the first season can only be seen BOM, since they don’t even air reruns anymore. Sure, they’ll air a crappy CG monster-of-the-week movie five times a week, but Hezmana forbid that they actually show one of their highest-rated and most critically-acclaimed series ever…

grr. argh.

SciFi, like Fox, has a horrible reputation for not knowing when they got a good thing going for them. Farscape was one of its highest rated shows and then they go and cancel it. SG1 was just getting good again, and they cancel it, Stargate Atlantis was finally coming into its own . . . and well you get the picture. They have always treated Farscape like the red-headed stepchild. First with the abrupt cancellation, then the whining when fans demanded a mini-series and now with making it virtually impossible to enjoy in your own home. Its ridiculous and makes you wonder if the people who run the networks have any clue at all.

PSST BTW they don’t have one.

Farscape: The Complete Series on DVD will be released on November 17, 2009. Amazon has it for $105 (US). That’s a steal for 4 seasons of pretty awesome content. hangs head in shame I feel like a spammer. But it is a great deal. I’ve complained about the way they packaged the series in the past. I am so glad they got their act together.

pssst Star Trek will be released the same day. Since you’re in the store anyway…

especially since the early starburst editions are ridiculously expensive

i’ll be sticking with my doyuble-sided originals, though.

FYI, Netflix now has seasons 1-3 of Farscape on instant watch. Seasons 1 and 2 look complete. I haven’t checked season 3.

I went ahead and purchased the Complete Series and started watching.

Great show. Wish I’d watched it when it was originally airing.

I forget what the original story was but one of the three studios that was funding it went under and the other two didn’t want to pick up the extra money to keep it going and that’s why it died, they ended season 4 the way they did because at the time they were signed on for a 5th

at least we got The Peacekeeper Wars though to close up some of the major story points that were left open

love the show wish it had more time re-watching it on netflix and loveing it

For anyone interested, there have been a few miniseries and now one ongoing Farscape comic that Rockne O’Bannon has said will be considered canon and connected to the webisodes, if they ever get made!

They’re funny, too, and the D’argo ones have great art (Caleb Clevelend, for those interested.)

Im subscribed to the new series, which I believe is up to issue 3(?), and so far so good. The art is good and so is the writing, and the characters all ‘feel’ exactly as they should since Mr. O’Bannon is writing them. The series starts what seems to be several years after the end of the Peacekeeper Wars.

i’m actualloy undergoing a re-watch now myself, just broke into the third season. i knew i liked the show around the middle of season before, but watching it all over again, i realize that i dind’t give the show enough credit for being as good as it really is.
