…this year we will broadcast not only the finals but all three weeks of matches LIVE via EVE TV from 14:50 GMT until 21:00 GMT each day in glorious High Definition. You can tune in here to watch those matches.

Click the “tune in here” link above and be sure to select “High Def (1500k)” from the “Choose Resolution” drop down menu on the lower left corner if your bandwidth can support it.

The tournament runs from 15:00 GMT/UTC until 21:00 GMT/UTC (11 AM ET/8 AM PT until 5 PM ET/2 PM PT). So, that’s 6 hours of coverage. You can look at http://at.eve-ic.net/8/?view=matches for the schedule. Folks should not feel obligated to show up from the start or stay until the very end. Feel free to drop by or leave at anytime.

Most matches last between 4 and 15 minutes. They generally start every :00, :20, and :40 past the hour, so there’s a bit of lull between them. However, CCP (the developer of EVE Online) will have studio commentators, developer guest appearances, and give away prizes this weekend to help fill the void between matches.

Additionally if you have an active account, please join us in game in the “GWC” (without quotes) channel. But, I’ll keep an eye on this thread to answer questions and whatnot. Hopefully, others will as well. So, don’t feel intimidated or shy about asking basic (or even advanced) questions about the tournament or the game in general. It’s how we all learn! (:

Hope you’ll join us.

P.S. Here’s some background if you’re interested, but these aren’t necessary reading to enjoy the tournament.

CCP try to list the ships from biggest to smallest on the left and right sides. So their order will be battleships, battle cruisers, strategic cruisers (Tech 3), cruisers, and frigates classes from top to bottom.

You can generally map certain ships to traditional RPG roles. There are tanks, melee/dps, healers, and support ships.

One popular question is who furnishes the ships in these matches. The alliances themselves buy and fit their ships at their own expense. So, you can literally see ships worth billions on the field. For comparison, a Minmatar Rifter, a popular frigate, is worth 280,000 isk for just the ship itself. However, the alliance with the most expensive ships and fittings can be beaten by non-expensive ships due to luck and target calling.

Each race is denoted by a color. Amarr gold (armor tankers and turret base), Caldari blue (shield tankers and missile [and sometime turret] base), Gallente green (armor tankers and turret/drone base), and Minmatar red (mixed tank and mixed missile/turret base).

http://at.eve-ic.net/8/ has great info and statistics. For example, what ships have been fielded the most.

Finally, you can watch Youtube videos of previous matches, etc., if you miss them live.

I just found out NSTAR (electric public utility provider) will be shutting off the electricity from 1 AM to 1 PM ET. Gonna charge my cart and try to head to the library before the match assuming I can wake up on time without an alarm clock.

Hoping the main library will have power. Dunno how widespread the outage will be.

I’m here. And, I’m home. Power was restored early.

It’s begun!

First match was great. A lot of back and forth.

Heh. They are showing corp/alliance made promos before matches.

Nice brutal fight finishing up here. Bombers took all the CVA battleships into armor, but CVA still pulled off the win.

Great quote:
“The internet spaceship version of slapping them across the face with a fish.”

A team just lost a 10-15billion isk ship.

Oh Frek(i)

I like the EVE University promo.

Half time now.

“This is Jita!”

There’s a dreadnought in Jita?

Hey all, just in from work. Who’s gotten pwned so far?

8 teams. d:

And, we finally get to see Brianna.

Who’s Brianna?

Female commentator that a lot of ppl on the EVE forums dislike.

Oh, ok the Asian chick on Eve TV.

Cute Asian chick. d:

I underestimated ECM. I thought MM would win.
