…this year we will broadcast not only the finals but all three weeks of matches LIVE via EVE TV from 14:50 GMT until 21:00 GMT each day in glorious High Definition. You can tune in here to watch those matches.

http://www.eveonline.com/events/alliances/tournament/t8/viewersd.asp is the link.

Be sure to choose “High Def (1500k)” from the “Choose Resolution” drop down menu on the lower left corner if your bandwidth can support it.

The tournament runs from 15:00 GMT/UTC until 21:00 GMT/UTC (11 AM Eastern/8 AM Pacific until 5 PM Eastern/2 PM Pacific). So, that’s 6 hours. You can look at http://at.eve-ic.net/8/?view=matches for the schedule. Folks should not feel obligated to show up from the start or stay until the very end. Feel free to drop by or leave anytime.

Keep in mind that most matches are between 4 and 15 minutes. They generally start every :00, :20, and :40 past the hour, so there’s a bit of lull between them. You can chat, mine, watch youtube videos of previous matches, etc., at those times. But, CCP (the developer of EVE Online) has been good at filling those times with random videos and in-game video feeds to keep people occupied.

Additionally if you have an active account, please join us in game in the “GWC” (without quotes) channel. But, I’ll keep an eye on this thread to answer questions and whatnot. Hopefully, others will as well. So, don’t feel intimidated or shy about asking basic (or even advanced) questions about the tournament or the game in general. It’s how we all learn.

Hope you’ll join us.

P.S. I don’t know what the rule is for game/MMO fraks, so please be kind (and let me know) if I’m overstepping some bound.

The stream is up. The water is fine, come on in.

I haven’t played so no idea of the rules, etc, but this is fun to watch.

Rules are simple: Just kill the other team. d:

They are various things like each ship is worth a number of points and whatnot. I’ll post a link for the rules after I find it.

And, here we have a low security (outlaw area) system camera.

Do you have any idea when your team’ll be playing?

Neither of us are on a team. It’s for the big alliances in the game.

Got it. Well, it looks very sweet on the big TV.

I’m a carebear. I don’t pvp (combat wise anyway). I’m not participating, just watching.

Np. I’ll prolly look them over myself after this match. d:

If you want any more info, just speak up. ^^

Just a little info. The promoters seem the list the ships from biggest to smallest on the left and right sides. So their order will be battleships, battle cruisers, strategic cruisers (Tech 3), cruisers, and frigates from top to bottom.

Also, you can generally map certain ships to traditional RPG roles. There are tanks, melee/dps, healers, and support ships. Just letting you know. ^^

One popular question is regarding who furnishes the ships in these matches. The alliances themselves buy and fit their ships with various modules and ammo at their own expense. So, you can literally see ships worth billions on the field. For comparison, a Minmatar Rifter, a popular frigate, is worth 280,000 isk for just the ship itself.

However, the alliance with the most expensive ships and fittings can be beaten by non-expensive ships due to luck and target calling.

Another note, each race is denoted by a color. Caldari blue (shield tankers and missile base), Gallente green (armor tankers and turret/drone base), Amarr gold (armor tankers and turret base), and Minmatar red (mix tank and mix missile/turret base).

Some cheesy lines today from the commentators.

“You could say he rocked him like a hurricane.”

Hurricane is the name of one of the Minmatar battlecruiser ships.

Ok. There’s a long break now. The next match is at :20 after the next hour.

However, CCP is still showing combat via one of the system camera on their stream.

The second half of today’s matches should be interesting because they are winners vs. winners of last week’s matches.

Great match after the break.

Agony vs Ushra Khan should be good. Those guys have been fighting each other a lot in the new Provi environment, I wonder how the familiarity will affect things.

Prolly a lot of smack talk in local. d:

“Tengus are the most fielded ship by losing teams” Lol

“It performed well. And, that’s the kinda thing that makes me wonder whether I know what I’m talking about.”
