I mean I don’t mind for this show since I haven’t seen Seasons 1-3 but it just seems lazy. I like the way LOST does it. BSG did it as well. The catch-up with what’s going on special.
That’s not generally the purpose of these episodes. They’re usually driven by the producers, basically as a way to put out an extra episode cheaply.
Does it also sterilize our precious bodily fluids?

Usually it’s more a matter of a whole new episode, with only a few minutes of new shooting. Scenes from previous episodes cost nothing. IIRC, “Shades of Grey” was because of the writers’ strike (slapped together without writers – I wonder why it sucked :p).
