I know, but the whole concept of dragons in this 'verse is completely subservient to humans. They’re essentially just tools. It just feels like it lessens them somehow.

I assume the ‘shade’ is getting magic from Galbatrax’s dragon… And there seems to elemental magic as well, as with the fire and so forth. Plus the female seems to use Elven magic, remember the Kings mention of Elves and Dwarves…
