For a true alternative fuel source, the Transformers’ Energon vs. Avatar’s Unobtanium?
Harvesting energon is more eco-friendly, but don’t let that color your answer.

Energon is found everywhere, can be produced from other energy sources, and is used as a form of currency.
OTOH, unobtanium lives up to its name.
Plus, we don’t know what Unobtainium is used for. Are we sure it’s a power source? Or is it something used to build subflexive fasartas?
its all purpose
you can refine it into a liquid for fuel, grind it into powder to sweeten up the coffee or tea, or use it as rocks to throw at people you don’t like!
Are you sure you aren’t describing corn?
I don’t know what you’ve been smoking but I don’t put corn based stuff in my iced tea!!!
the best alternative energy is to turn everyone into a Kryptonian. In doing so, turn ourselves into solar panels. That way we don’t waste energy to travel, get warm or stay cool because we don’t care, we don’t need energy to heat up water or cook, we can bake a pizza with our eyes. We can power our electronics by cycling our home electric generators, can we won’t even break a sweat.
uh… yes you do… especially if you live in the US…
uh… yes you do… especially if you live in the US… average American consumed approximately 37.8 lb of high fructose corn syrup per year. so even if you absolutely put no sugar in your iced tea, unless you never eat out, chances are you are taking in corn based sweeteners.
Since Unobtanium was never really explained at all, I can’t vote for it as a power source. The impression I had was that it was a room temperature stable super conductor with anti gravity characteristics.
But since it is a mystery material that the writer never bothered to develop for us, we may as well call it Baloneyium as per tradition…
Seriously unobtainium, single handedly ruined avatar for me, well not ruined but still dude its called sudilty… might as well call it flobotnim.
I would just like to know where wonderflonium falls into this discussion!
Well, if any of it falls, bad things happen, especially if it bounces.
So I watched Avatar for the 1st time (in 2D on DVD) —well half of it, I’ll watch the rest tonite probably. Definitely a wholely original and beautifully made peice of work.
But, am I the only one that thinks “Unobtainium” is a super lame word? I cringed at that.
It’s an old word…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtainium
Since the late 1950s,[1][2] aerospace engineers have used the term unobtainium when referring to unusual or costly materials, or when theoretically considering a material perfect for their needs in all respects, except that it does not exist. By the 1990s, the term was in wide use, even in formal engineering papers such as “Towards unobtainium [new composite materials for space applications]”.[3] The word unobtainium may well have been coined in the aerospace industry to refer to materials capable of withstanding the extreme temperatures expected in reentry. Aerospace engineers are frequently tempted to design aircraft which require parts with strength or resilience beyond that of currently available materials.
Later, Unobtainium became an engineering term for practical materials that really exist, but are difficult to get.
Huh. To me that makes it even worse cuz they’re being unoriginal (or am I missing something?).
But that said, I’ll give James Cameron a pass. With Avatar, he created a whole original world with a culture, language etc. In this age of A-Team and Karate Kid remakes, Cameron gets major kudos for actually creating something new.
Unobtainium is used to keep the Wonderfonium from bouncing within the Adamantium case.
And where does Red Matter fall?
Other: Naquadah
Tell that to people who call Avatar, “Pocahontas in Space.”
Definitely not Naquadria though. d:
