I told my daughters this morning, “Hey girls! We’ve lived through a tornado, survived the recent earthquake, and now await the hurricane.”

They’re response, “Meh.”

They’ve seen 2012 too many times… (:

i can’t wait for the day when kids go “meh” to “hey, we’ve just drive by a black hole!”

That would be Samantha Carter’s kids. They’ll be so hard to impress.

I trust the Washington Monument is not mortally wounded, but the amount of time and expense in determining the extent of the damage, the feasibility of repair, and whether the public will ever go inside again remains unexpectedly unknown. Perhaps in response to mounting criticism, “What’s the hold up? Re-open it already!” the National Park Service has released footage during the earthquake taken by three interior security cameras.

Clearest source video and also so you don’t become enraged at the texting Ranger who apparently fled, turning her back on small children: “The ranger at the top following protocol, guiding visitors to the emergency exit door on the 490 level, which opens inward, and then returning to the 500 level to ensure that all visitors are out.
