Dune

Hey Forum:D

So I’m totally new. I started listening to GWC between BSG 4.0 and 4.5. I keep hearing “friendliest crowd in scifi” so I figured I’d finally get off my lazy bumpkiss and check it.

I’ve been looking through the forums for about an hour now, and couldn’t find anything on Frank Herbert’s Dune series. I’ve only read the first 3 books, actually, I’ve read the first 3 books about 10 times each over the past 8 years, but I’ve never been able to get into God-Emporer of Dune or beyond it. :frowning: I’ve tried, but it seems Herbert changed style majorly between Children of Dune and God-Emporer. Does the story keep it’s consitancy further on? I’ve owned God-Emporer for 3 years, but have never gotten past the first 50 pages…

Welcome aboard itad. I think you’ll find that we live up to our reputation.

welcome to the party. yeah i’ve tried to get through these books more than once. to this day i have only read through the original book. I just stall out on the others. I figure one day i’ll just get the audiobooks to get through them on my commute.

Welcome to the Forum!

Friendly warning: Do NOT read Hunters of Dune or Sandworms of Dune. The other stuff by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson is enjoyable, but these two are terrible. There’s another thread about why they suck in the Open Book Discussion.

After you get past God-Emperor of Dune, the story picks up again. But you need God-Emperor to get the last two.

Hey i_tego, welcome to the Forum!

In fact there are a couple of Dune threads. I recommend when searching using advanced search (because quite frankly the regular search never gives quality results.

Here is a link to the search I executed looking for instances of the word “Dune” in titles only:
