I only have one response to this…
I’m interested in seeing it, just to see if it could possibly be worse than the first one. The bar is very high for it to be worse than the original, but here’s hoping…
I’m a big Who (band, not Dr.) kick. Just watched Quadrophenia. Sting has a very small role in it, but he lights up the flick. That cat really had it. Should have made more movies, less solo music. It’s a shame he didn’t match up with a good vehicle.
Long as we’re talking Dune movie… I didn’t see it in the theaters, but someone told me they handed out a glossary card as the beginning, so you’d know what the bleedin’ heck everybody was talking about. I don’t know if that’s the best or worst idea ever. Leaning toward worst.
Lol. It wasn’t the glossy cards that ruined it for me…it was the little flashlights they gave everybody to read them !!
Mmmmm. Sting in a codpiece.
Thanks, Solai. I needed that!
It was strange but fine for most of the film but when you consider the director, its more normal than most, of his work, but it was the rain at the end, Its just wrong. bad and wrong.
For me They should keep making the Miniseries, and forget about the big screen unless there willing to invest all out lord of the rings money and make a three (or more) pictures, for it properly.
Just my two cents
I remember the hype when Dune first went to the big screen- Bigger than Star Wars! What a joke. I recently watched the film again and had to watch it a second time to understand the entire story and the Fremen, etc.
My brother has read the book and swore it is amazing- Perhaps if I read the book first, the movie would have been much better. I’ll take my Star Wars films thank you.
Rush, if you read the book, you’ll be even more pissed. Trust me. After finally reading Dune (because the movie turned me way the frak off) this year, I was cussing about it for DAYS. How could they frak this movie up??? This injustice won’t stand, man!!
Well, I’ve said enough, I’m going to go abide.
My friends and I at around age 14 or 15 all read Dune, and we are big fans of the book.
We also played the Avalon Hill board game Dune a zillion times (my avatar is a game piece from that game). So the anticipation and excitment we all felt waiting for the Dune movie to come out was intense. I think that made it all the more disapointing for us when the movie came out—are expectations where so high and the movie was pretty bad.
In contrast, I think the Sci Fi channel Dune miniseries was great—well acted, great special effects (I hear that actor William Hurt has always been a Dune fan so he was thrilled to play Leto, Paul’s father). And Children of Dune was even better.
All that said, I have a hard time imagining that anyone could really enjoy or understand either of those Sci Fi channels movies (or the David Lynch Dune movie) without first reading the book. Ya know, now that I think if it, I think I’ll rewatch the Sci Fi channel Dune and Children of Dune movies. It’s been a while…
I’m with ThotFullGuy here. The David Lynch movie bit the big one, and I think it’s because they tried way too hard to cram every little bit of the book into too short a movie and couldn’t get the balance right. The Sci.Fi. mini-series on the other hand was much better. Skiffy doesn’t have many good shows on, but this was one of their few hits.
