Dominion Storyline

What is your favorite point or Plot in the Dominion storyline?

Mine is the Cardasian underground plot. I love Garek and everything involveing him. I loved how this storyline really did a lot for the Cardasians!

I really liked the whole fall of DS9 and liberation arch. Especially how Dukat reacted to the unlikely defeat. And his reaction to losing his daughter. I really enjoyed Dukat’s arch uptil this point. It was why the series was so great. Even Dukat wasn’t totally evil.

Me too. When Damar murders Ziyal, my heart breaks. As much as you hate Dukat, all his dreams and love die in that episode. You really feel for the guy. He is Hitler afterall, so not that much. But you can see why he went cuckoo.

However, I also enjoy the scene with Kira, Damar, and Garek storming the Dominion command center on Cardassia and they can’t get in the door. That scene cracks me up. It really captures how much them have been through together and how they’ve healed many of their differences.

yeah, and the fact they can make the viewer feel so strongly for the villains’ lost is pure brilliance on the part of the writers.

I love that Dukat’s quest is to NOT be evil, but he is. He wants to change. He wants to not be what he is… he almost get’s there. His sideing with the dominion is a political decision. It’s not eveil. It was viewed as best for his people. He wanted t o be a good guy, help his people, and be recognizzed for it. He would stop at nothing to achieve this… which is kinda evil.

I had to vote for the Tal Shiear/Obsidian Order fleet’s attack on he Changelings home world, and the reveal that the Changelings were behind it all along. The first jaw dropping moment in DS9 that let you know this was going to be much a more complex and long lasting story than ST had tackled before…

Liberation of DS9. Gritty.

I pretty much liked it all, but I voted for In The Pale Moonlight, because its my favorite Star Trek episode of all time. Taking back DS9 is a close second though.

I voted ages ago but forgot to explain myself - I just love love love that episode. This clip! I am without words.

I admit it. I cried.

yeah that was an wonder episode. I always enjoyed Garak episodes. wish they used him more.

The thing that I always LOVE to bring up to Trek fans about “Pale Moonlight”. Is Trek makes the argument for Facism. It says, If the leaders believes he is doing what is best, murder, treachery, and everything my associates did in the past 8 years is ok because the person doing it believes that they are doing what’s best.

Now we have the in-sight to know that if the Romulans hadn’t joined the Feds-Klingon union that the dominion would just come for them after they defeated our heroes. The Romulans were robed of their right to chose their own way. It’s against ALL the principles of Trek. Sure the Romulans are bad guys adn we aren’t supposed to care if their rights are violated. But objectivaly a “Picardian” trek fan would have to be offended by Sisko’s actions. I have found that they usualy aren’t.

Speaking as an army/NSA guy, it’s funny how so many people are in favor of what Sisko did, but hate what we (I) have been doing for the past few years.

Principles are principles. A cultural/terror shift in our world is as serious as a domminion invasion. An argument is often made that America hasn’t been perfect and maybe deserves some of the hate thrown at us. But didn’t the solids do the same to the changelings to incur their wrath.

I say this either Sisko is a hero… and so are the guys that work with me, and the people in Bush’s administration that we label as evil in the press.

Or Sisko is a villian, just as me and my coworkers are accused of on a daily basiss by the press.

That’s my two cents on Sisko. BTW, Sisko did the right thing. ( and he didn’t put it to a vote, or have oversight of politiians, Generals, or the federation populace or the media)

I’m saying it’s my favorite episode of this storyline - because of the challenge of what Sisko, our erstwhile hero, has done. Part of the character’s arc too is realizing that, despite his principles - he can live with what he’s done. I don’t think I could have, but I find the exploration of those themes fascinating.

I have seen the episode many many times, and I find it hard to say if what Sisko did was morally right. It is very much against the principles of Star Trek. That is what makes it powerful.

My girlfriend pointed out that my post could be construed as an attack or smart ass comment about you guys, It is not and wasn’t ment to be. I can see why she thought so. So let me make it clear… I ALWAYS am hearing from ds9 fans about this episode. ( because it is awsome)

I have been haveing this debat amongst my friends for years and was just bringing it up because I know so few people in daily life that have seen this episode, and you guys have. I often feel like Sisko makeing his log, and always bring up that conversation when I have the chance. So forgive me darkening the mood in regaurds to this subject. In light of current situations, the last few years of DS9 are really touching to me, in a way that weren’t when I was younger. ( especialy the episodes where the Admiral attempts a coup- and BTW he was later proven corrrect in every charge he made)

So if if you thought I meant “you guys” specificaly when I meant “trek fans” I didn’t. I don’t really know any of your politics… and don’t believe in attacking the beliefs of others, especialy on a “fun” forum.

no worries, roosterpfunk
