Does Anyone Remember That Rosey Grier was RFK's Bodyguard the Night He Was Killed?

Rosey Grier, the football player famous for doing needlepoint, according to Wikipedia was actually Robert Kennedy’s bodyguard the night he was assassinated! He, along with author George Plimpton(!?), wrestled with assassin Sirhan Sirhan and Rosey grabbed his gun away from him. I found this so unbelievable that I actually went to a real library and looked up a real book about Robert Kennedy and it “confirmed” this.

The book was written in 2007 so I am wondering if some prankster has been propogating this over the internet and its getting picked up and regurgitated as legitmate fact. I sure don’t remember Rosey’s involvment but I was quite young at the time. After RFK was killed the Secret Service started to guard presidential candidates as well so its almost plausible.

My question to all of you is if you have heard of Rosey doing this? Or even George Plimpton for that matter?

Can you imagine the coverage these days if two “Dancing with the Stars” level of celebrities were involved in a political assassination of this caliber?

Ran this by The GF, and she’s not surprised. Grier was a bodyguard (she thinks unofficially, at least in this case) and Plimpton was a huge Kennedy supporter. That was a pretty big event, so it makes sense that both would be there. I’m sure there were others who played a role that go unmentioned because we haven’t heard of them in other venues.

I don’t remember that Grier or Plimpton got to Sirhan to get the gun. They were behind Kennedy when he went into the hallway to the kitchen…Sirhan was in the hallway in front. All footage shows it was very crowded…

YouTube videos with the footage, some I remember some I don’t. I was 9 1/2 when this took place. We saw some of this footage over and over when it happened and again in history classes in school.

Well that proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt, thanks gryper. Sad to watch this again though…
