Does Adama HAVE to cry in almost every episode

What is with emo-dama. Damn… i know sensitivity is in these days… but this is ridiculous.

awwww c’mon! I mean really, the man’s retirement plan was botched, and everything turns in CRAP year after year… that would make even the toughest dude come undone in his private moments…

I would be doin the same frakkin craaap. Hes a milatary man and this ship has been with him for a long time. Lots of good memories lots of bad. And to know that shes gonna break into peices, well i would be doin the same frakkin thing

It was a little awkward in that usually the effects of his breakdowns last more than one scene. This time he cleaned up and pulled himself together pretty fast.
Doesn’t really matter though, I think that was the last Adama breakdown we will see.

3 more hours folks.:frowning:

What is with Hollywood that they think any time someone is faced with an emotional situation that the first instinct people have is to go paint? Then naturally they have a breakdown and decide flinging paint around will solve the problem. Who does this? I challenge the hive mind to find one recorded instance of this in “real life”.

I present to you: Mr. Jackson Pollock

I thought of it as more of a callback to Kara’s dream sequence in “Maelstrom.” Kara tried to paint over the mandala in her old apartment, representing her trying to reject her destiny. Here, Adama is trying to cover up the cracks in Galactica, to not face up to the fact that she’s falling apart and also to reject the “destiny crap” Kara and Ellen are trying to push on him with the Hera recovery mission.

As for it being a trend in Hollywood, it’s probably more that it’s a nice visual symbol than anything realistic. Painting over something is symbolic shorthand trying to fix something by covering it up.

I got the same callback vibes to Maelstrom. At least Leoben didn’t come out of nowhere to “help” Adama paint.

 Indeed!

Adama’s drool has a contract for at least 5 episodes.

It’s a tradition in television.

Just look at Lost and how many times Jack cried in the woods (or everywhere else for that matter).

But the guy (Adama) will lose his women and his ship real soon, so he may be emotional. It looked like he was with the ship for a long time even before the second war started.

Or with the other ship captains railing against having the basestar Galactica be the only thing protecting them. What they are gonna do ? leave ? It would be pretty stupid and for what I know the Basestar is not dependent on the fleet at all. But the fleet will need it for protection.

Yeah, that’s what I thought too. Thank God Head Leoben didn’t show up.

While I love Eddie’s acting, I too felt a bit like this was one tantrum too many. I think it was more of a writing/editing issue than an acting thing, though. It was an easy choice to show him break down in order to motivate his Next Big Decision. He certainly seemed to pull it together afterwards, but he was still drinking (that might have been raising the glass one last time to the old girl, though; I’ll give him that).

What got to me this week was Helo going all watery-eyed begging Adama for a chance to go find his kid. You know he hates himself for what happened, and that he and Athena have nothing else to live for except that little girl. When those two get their daughter back, there’s going to be major Super-Mom and Super-Dad pain to bring on her kidnappers.

Apparently Hot Dog’s Rash held out for a pay raise. Guess it didn’t realize how fickle the fans can be when it comes to bodily functions…

I agree completely. There’s nothing more I want to see out of this finale than Helo and Athena bringing on major ass-kickage to save their little girl.

That’s for sure… If we haven’t seem him all bleary-eyed for what seems like every other episode, then the painting scene would have been more effective… still, I was ok with it.

Yeah… that and Tigh and the 8’s deathbed scene had me going there.
