Doctor Who News- Hey EmilyfromOhio, did you see this?

shocked Russell T Davies stepped down as head writer and executive producer of Doctor Who? No way! At least the BBC got it right when they hired Steven Moffat to replace him. (He just won a BAFTA for his episode from last year called “Blink”, which may have been the creepiest hour of telly I’ve ever seen!)

And, just so’s ya know, I found out about this by reading this post in Neil Gaiman’s blog. Mr Gaiman, a friend of Mr Moffat’s, never says yes or no to the question posted by Rachel (not me, unfortunately…). I think this fangirl may drop over dead if Neil Gaiman starts writing Doctor Who episodes…

This almost certainly means that Tennant will step down as well. Boo hoo. I do like Tennant as the Doctor. It will be interesting to see who Moffat can bring in.

Hmm…one of my friends would make the perfect Doctor. Wonder where I should tell him to send his resume…

From what I’ve read, Tennant was going to step down after the 2009 specials anyway, which fills me with dread. I do love the tenth Doctor! But I loved the ninth Doctor, too, and thought no one could replace him…

Incidentally, they’re already filming the Christmas special for this year, and then will be doing four “feature-length” specials for 2009. All of which Davies will be in charge of. Then Moffat will take over for the 2010 spring series.

According to Podshock.net There is no word yet one way or another…

DT has been quoted that he hasn’t been asked yet, but if asked, he would consider it… very non-committal answer. Probably not allowed to say so definitely one way or the other.

Yaa, it’s all a great mystery so far. Perhaps tennant will want to stay on and see how Moffat fairs, but I am wondering if the new broom won’t sweep clean. If you go on You Tube and watch Tennant’s video diaries, you can read between the lines that he is feeling a bit fatigued by the pace and a little overwhelmed by the fans. Also, I think he is approaching the screen minutes of Tom Baker (though not the number of seasons) – this, I think, according to Podshock.

I am still hoping that the extra-ordinary measures of having the 5th season be 4 specials only in order to accomodate Tennant’s theatre ambitions was done to allow Tennant to remain as the Doctor. We can only hope. A change is as good as a rest. But then that can be said of the fans too. A new Doctor may not be a bad thing.

hi! i’ve no idea why, but i never knew they had threads here on other scifi show.

anyway, i’m all for moffat being the showrunner. pretty much all the episodes he’s written for this show, i loved. and while i give my huge thanks to RTD for giving doctor who new life, for some reason, i never really enjoy the episodes he pens as much. he’s a great tv writer, but somehow i feel that sci fi is probably not his forte. i love his focus on the families and relationships of the characters, but in terms of freaky scifi things, there’s always something missing in the episodes he writes. but bravo, for four solid seasons. (and yay! i cannot love moffat any more.)

and i do quite enjoy tennant as the doctor - i didn’t know he was stepping down! i’ve heard news that the show was going to take a long break so that tennant could go off and do some theatre/shakespeare thing and still be the doctor. but i guess maybe that’s old news?

anyway.

I’m not sure how many people know this, but I love Steven Moffet. I think that Davis has done a great job, but I think he was running out of ideas. He keeps on doing the same sotry over and over again. I’d like himcontinue to write.

II’m really excited to see Mufet as the main writer. But, it’s going to be ineresitng. This could ve a vveryd ifferent show come 2011

“My entire career has been a Secret Plan to get this job,” said Steven Moffat. “I applied before but I got knocked back cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven.”
