Do you think the series will suddenly go hard sci fi at the end?

I’ve had an idea kicking around for most of the week, and i’m not sure if they’ll go there because up until now BSG has only played with time once…although if they do go the route i’m considering, it wouldn’t be that much different than time dialation.

Here’s the theory i’ve been toying with:

galactica leaves fleet for rescue mission, neither the galactica, or anyone from it comes back.

the fleet makes their way to kobol and settles down, not knowing if the cylons will ever return to hunt them they abandon technology and lay low. hundreds of years pass.

Meanwhile on galactica they jump in, get in a huge battle, slide further down the accretion disk of the singularity until they finally rescue hera, at the last moment before their raptors would be torn apart they jump out, only to find that because of the folding of spacetime around the naked singularity, much less time has passed for them than the outside galaxy. they make their way to kobol and find a primitive civilization, and are greeted as gods. (apollo, hera, athena, etc)

Clues to this happening

  1. Any spacetime holes, whatever, sci fi wierdness that happens around the singularity will only affect the galactica, since the fleet is staying behind.

  2. instead of using a normal black hole they used a theoretical one a “naked singularity” since they’re highly speculative its easier to get away with the time jump forward thing.

  3. there was a casting call at one point for fit people with dreadlocks, very earthy and athletic types.

Thats not tooooo hard sci fi, but another friend of mine has an idea that it all ends on earth, a different earth, and that theres multiple universes. Not sure what to think. Also, i haven’t posted here in a while so all this may have been discussed to death. if so, i apologize.

It’s been discussed in various forms, but not homed in on this detail. I’ve been thinking about this possibility for sure, but have been kinda dismissing it because it seems too outright sci-fi for BSG. But maybe they’ll pull out all the stops for the finale. Setting the final battle over a black hole/naked singularity just seems to scream out for some kind of space or time warpage to occur at the end. At least, it would if this were any other sci-fi show.

They do have two hours, so the science lesson might have time to pan out.

thats kinda what i’m thinking too. that and time being compressed near a black hole is actually more close to known science than their jump drives are. I think i’d be willing to buy it.

<beavis laugh on>
you said “suddenly go hard”
<Beavis laugh off>

Cpt. Tim, it’s “scifi” logical, I’d buy it.

So we have all watched the show for 4+ years and have tryed to glean SOMETHING out of every episode - THEN in one, singular show, Ron reveals EVERYTHING about the Cylons. Thank God I did not miss that one show. It is almost like he rewarded all the ‘bandwagon’ people who have jumped on the show in this last season saying that they have been die-hard fans all along.

So could he also drag us all this way without true ‘Sci-Fi’ magical happenings and then throw a singularity in the mix to ‘reset’ the entire cycle?

Absolutely. It seems too convenient to have a battle next to a black hole…

Of course like any relationship - one or two unusual items don’t make me throw away a great thing which I love.

Quite true. If they were able to set up the science of it in a natural way, it could work fine. I mean, we do have killer robots already.

There is no plot twis i would put past RDM.

My current feeling on the singularity is that it is a tactical obstacle to be overcome.

But…

I like the idea of time dilation and Galactica and/or crew coming out of the battle in the future.

it would not surprised me, nor will I be disappointed if it is not.

but good thinking!:cool:

Personally, I hope they don’t do this “time loop” explanation of the cycle phenomenon. We’ve all been following the clues that humans create Cylons who create skinjobs…war, destruction, survival over time. It seems too late to change that significantly. Plus, this is exactly what Trek would do…so BSG must do the opposite!

Please oh please.

Sounds like a Futurama episode to me. Cylons keep on slippin’, slippin’.

Too Andromeda.

I don’t see it happening. I see more the fact that the singularity is there to chew up what’s left of all technology so the next cycle starts fresh with no remnants of this generation of cylon tech. It is a nice thought that Adama and Roslin would be locked in an embrace for a thousand years as time dilates around the ship.

just to be clear its not a time loop. its just time not going at the same pace for everyone. Now in terms of the story it is a loop because it sets things up to happen again. But no travel to the past happens.

I could see RDM doing something like that, but I hope they don’t. One of the things they have been doing in the show is keep stuff like that out it…and I don’t think it would be in the spirit of the current BSG.

Now I do see RDM using this to get the Colony to be destroyed by the singularity and that I can accept. Cavil gets to taste his whatever after all sort of thing.

I could see them doing something along the lines of the survivors of the Galactica finding the real Earth and the rest of the fleet being lost forever. I would like to point out, in the episode that Boomer took Hera… when they stopped by the gas giant I said… Hey that looks a lot like Jupiter.

RDM’s most recent podcast states that it is definitely not Jupiter.
