It sounded like a nice idea at the time. But this new Captain’s Quorum doesn’t seem to be working any better than the old Quorum. Now they have even more voices crammed into an even smaller room, and all these captains are used to being listened to on their own ships, so they’re even less likely to settle down and compromise with each other than the old representatives were. And in the session we saw, President Lee was doing a half-[sorry-Barb] job of keeping order and exuding authority. The best he seemed to be able to muster was to yell right back at them. Real inspiring, Apollo. You have better than that in you, I know it.
Why not just send a representative from each ship instead of hauling all the captains out of their command decks every time the fleet needs to make a decision? And maybe it’s about time the Colonies adopt a bicameral system to relieve some of the deadlock once in a while. Maybe the old Quorum of 12 acts as a sort of Senate/House of Lords, with the Captain’s Quorum/Ships’ Representative Quorum as a House of Representatives/House of Commons. I know we’ve argued that a functioning government with this small a number of people left could be an exercise in futility anyway, but at this point it couldn’t hurt.
On a side note, it was good to the lead judge captain from Baltar’s trial again. Nice bit of continuity there.
