Did Chief Plan the attack on Athena?

Ok, so to rescue Boomer, Chief killed (at least beat up) a random 8. But then how did he plan for Boomer to escape? Athena was leaving on a extended mission. Therefore logical way was for Boomer to replace Athena.

My question is… was chief innocent in planning out the attack on Athena? I mean the more I thought about it, the more I feel it was the Chief who gave Boomer the information she needed to formulate her escape plan.

The whole do it with Helo and take Hera part seemed to come to Boomer more spontaneously. Regardless, that part of Boomers plan was all her.

But Chief knew Boomer was escaping. He was even there to say goodbye when she boarded the Raptor. So he at least help planned for Boomer to attack Athena, right?

I think yes… at least he would have known of Boomer’s plan. Wow. Chief’s an even bigger douche, now that you’ve brought that up.

Id like to think Chief was uninformed of the Athena beat down. Maybe he assumed she would knock out a Cylon Pilot 8 or steal someone elses flight suit.

I sure hope thats the case…

even if Chief did not know and help plan Athena beat down before hand, would he know by the time he went to say good bye to her that it was Athena that Boomer replaced?

well it would be obvious she was pretending to be athena, no other 8 gets to fly around raptors in galactica flight suits.

I suspect that the Chief knew she would have to impersonate Athena but either didn’t want to or didn’t consider how she would do that most effectively.

my take on it and after hearing rdm’s cast is that he was helping her escape to avoid a cylon trial where she would most likely be killed but he didin’t expect her to double cross him and take hera plus it seemed he felt really bad about his actions at the end there!

1- I think Boomer primed the Chief to consider helping her escape, by showing him the life they could have had.

2- I think the Chief formulated at least the first part of the escape plan on his own. He got her out of the brig and replaced her with the (hopefully just) unconscious innocent bystander 8.

3- Next, the Chief would have to have a plan to get her to a raptor to escape the ship. She would need a pilot uniform. I’m thinking Boomer told the Chief she would meet him back on the flight deck, while she went to get a suit out of Athena’s quarters.

4- Next, Boomer shows up as Athena with carry-on baggage. The Chief looked surprised, no time to question.

I know I’m giving the Chief an enormous benefit of a doubt, but I can’t help it.

That’s a good point I hadn’t thought of. He must have known she had to do something to get Athena out of the way. And where exactly was he hoping Boomer would escape to?
She couldn’t go to the basestar without being noticed as who she was. Even aboard Galactica or another colonial ship she’d eventually run into another Cylon who would instantly recognize her.
Did he want her to run back to Cavil?

I was never a huge fan of Chief and now I’m even less. Ready to see him go now.

Yes, you’re right, where indeed.
It seems EVERYONE has stopped thinking clearly onboard the Galactica. I think it’s mental and emotional fatigue beyond the limit of bearing.

I haven’t listened to the whole podcast yet but going along those lines;

When the Chief is helping to put the box on the raptor he is pretty careless, Boomer tells him to take it easy or be careful. He didn’t seem to be aware that Hera was in there. And then later, he seems shocked when he learns that Boomer took Athena, he is really in a state of confusion and despair as he going running to the dream house.

So yea, very bad choices but I think he got played, he wasn’t a player.
