Dexter

I’ve finally caught up with this season (so far), and I wanted to ask something. Am I the only person who’s been fast forwarding through all the scenes that don’t have Dexter or Lumen (all right, and Masuka. At least he’s actually entertaining, compared to the rest of the supporting cast) in it? I just couldn’t take another boring storyline about how Angel and LoGuerta can’t get along, or Quinn being Doakes 2 (only with far less charm and frustrating to watch for a character who’s always been portrayed as an idiot), etc, so I just decided I had enough. But I like Dexter the character himself so much, I couldn’t just stop watching the show. So, as a compromise, this is how I watch Dexter episodes now - just scenes where Dexter, Lumen or Masuka are present. (So if Deb and Dexter are talking, I watch it. But if Deb’s chatting with Angel, fast forward!) I’m actually really enjoying this season when I don’t have to exert energy on the really tedious plots of the supporting cast.

So, I wanted to ask - am I missing anything important at all by this 20 odd minute version of Dexter instead of the full 40 minutes this season.

I have a feeling that they’re building something up, Quinn is pretty close to finding out about Dexter and that’s going to leave Debra in the middle of something.

Oooh, thanks for the update. Though, the idea of Quinn, a much less capable as a cop than Doakes, or Deb, for that matter, being able to figure out Dexter’s secret seems implausible. Quinn’s a terrible cop! And it’s not like Quinn was Dexter’s best friend (if they did that in past seasons instead, maybe him investigating Dexter would be more interesting), Quinn never really had a relationship with Dexter before. So it all feels like a less interesting rewatch of Doakes, even if Deb is in the middle of it somehow. I mean, Deb’s ex was Landry (?not sure of the name. The FBI guy), and he was also finding out about Dexter. And then we have Rudy, Deb’s other ex, who was also finding out about Dexter (though for an entirely different reason). Even Doakes, in a way, had a connection with Deb as well as everyone at the station purely because he worked with all of them. So with or without Deb, this plot of “Quinn is suspicious of Dexter” sounds like a rehash of past people, all with connections with Deb, poking in Dexter’s life, but while Rudy, Landry, and Doakes were interesting, Quinn? Not so much.

Unless of course, Deb is the one who finds out about Dexter, and THAT? Would make me want to watch those Quinn and Deb scenes.

Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama from BSG) will be on next seasons Dexter!

WOOOOOT!!!

wowowowow!!! that’s so exciting! I hope it’s a large role.

My money is on EJO being the main bad guy for the season. It’s quite a thing to follow up John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits

indeed…and playing a professof religious studoes can throw religion into the mix in a way the show hasnt previously…gonna be SWEET

yes, so excited! It’s fun to see that they’re fleshing out the cast for this season and adding some new blood… giggle

Nice!!!

Squueeeeee!! Can’t wait. October suddenly seems very far away.

Last nights premiere…sooooo good!! (seanscream)

I agree, it is good to see him again, and Deb’s cursing.
So they’ve jumped one year ahead. I’m still not sure why LaGuerta is still important enough, but hey the rest of the cast is essential to the story.
What happened to Harry that he encourages Dexter to let loose…IYKWIM

My feeling is that Harry is Dexter’s “conscience.” The rules that Harry taught Dexter are now personified by Harry within Dexter’s mind. Since Dexter is losing control and breaking the rules, the way Harry acts within Dexter’s mind is now slipping along with him.

Plus, I can’t wait to see some more Colin Hanks serial killer action. I think he’s going to bring a solid Norman Bates feel to his character.
