Definition of an "Arc"

First off, let me say I don’t speak for the GWC crüe. This is an interpretation of what has been said and posted. Like any good rule, their’s can be broken, bent or splintered as they see fit. However, for the purposes of conversation let’s talk about what an “arc” is. (no, I’m not looking at you Indy).

As Chuck put it, An arc is:
“a group of two to ten podcasts with each group discussing a particular subject”
What does that mean exactly? My interpretation is that we provide ideas for podcasts that span multiple 'casts. For example, suggesting “Solaris” as an arc doesn’t really work as one movie would only be one podcast. Suggesting a podcast arc for, “All the even numbered Star Trek movies”, “Danny Elfman movies” or “Sci-fi Movies 101” would be arcs.

The other important note would be that the upper limit is 10. Suggesting a podcast arc to watch season 5 of Star Trek TNG wouldn’t work as there is too much to be viewed.

Hmm. Interesting question. My instinct is that an “arc” is nine or fewer. Although I’m not sure what a ten-episode divergence would be. A “digression” maybe?

Are you going to make me break out my Statistics textbooks to figure out the standard deviation?

Ok Math geeks - take it outside.

Remember school is out.

But Summer School is in full swing!

(which isn’t a bad thing… it means I get a paycheck between May and September! Woohoo!)

I don’t know what summer school means in your neck of the woods, but here it gives kids 19 four-hour days to get what they didn’t get in 10 months.

yeah, right

I don’t know how the younger age brackets do it around here, but I’m talking about college classes. It’s still kind of hardcore and intense, and sucks at times because you get students who think the summer will be easier than the semester (natch)… but it’s not too bad.

and I’d like to apologize to Solai–publicly–for posting about summer school here in this thread where it is so obviously off topic.

No worries, it will eventually snap back on topic or just meander off in a new and entertaining direction completely.

It is all good.

This is going to sound really nerdy, but Solaris was a book and TWO Movies, and at least two podcasts could be pulled from comparing them alone.

In fact, the work of Stanislaw Lem could make a good, if not depressing, series of podcasts.

Not nerdy at all, please see also the Solaris thread here
