Dark Knight Sequel, what villain do you want and who do you want playing them?

thoughts?

I actually heard this as a rumor on imdb a while back (obviously someone just pulled this out of their butts considering I don’t think even now the script is written)

David Tennant as the Riddler, I think he could pull of that sophisticated crazy but still really smart nemesis

what villain do you want to see and who do you want playing them?

As much as I love The Riddler, I seriously doubt that Nolan will play him just after using The Joker since NBGs (Non-Batman Geeks) might consider him be very similar. I know that there’s been a rumor since forever that Rachel Weitz was going to play Catwoman and I must admit I really like that.

But I think that in the evolution of Batman from The Dark Knight must be a serious physical and personal threat. So I’m thinking Bane might be the next villain. And who else would be able to make Bane not only a serious threat but extremely interesting than Richard B. Riddick himself, Mr. Vin Diesel?

Don’t get me wrong, The Riddler would be really cool, but you would really have to change him up to make him both interesting and different from the Joker. As I have mentioned to a friend a while back, it would be kind of cool if The Riddler is never seen throughout the movie but is causing havoc as like a very dangerous computer hacker whose devistating Gotham’s mainframes and leaving clues to…say…Batman’s true identity, blaming him for the destruction. Just a thought.

Kinda wish they hadnt squandered The Scarecrow in the first flick. Would love to see a sequel in this new style with Scarecrow terrorizing the city.
The Riddler would be nice but his game playing antics are a little too close to the way they played the Joker in the last film. Id love to see them finally do Clayface! No idea who’d play him, it might even be too fantastical for the new style but Id love to see it.

Hey now, Scarecrow is still out there. While it might be a bit of a retread if Nolan used him again for the whole film, he could still be in play.

Me, I like the idea of The Penguin. Never the most effective Batman villain, perhaps, I think he would work great not as a freakish character or a weirdo with a penchant for funny umbrellas but, rather, as a vicious mob boss with an unusual nickname (perhaps because of his penchant for wearing exquisitely tailored tuxedoes?). There was a rumor going around right after Dark Knight came out that Phillip Seymour Hoffman was in consideration for such a role, and I really could see him playing a great Penguin in this vein.

Neil Patrick Harris as The Riddler (another, more recent, rumor) could be very cool too (David Tennant would work as well). I doubt that, if Nolan uses the Riddler, he would play him too much like The Joker.

I don’t, however, want to see Catwoman. I just don’t find her to be that interesting a character. The Huntress could be interesting, particularly if the end of Dark Knight is any indication and Batman will be perceived as the villain in the next film. Huntress could be played as a vigilante trying to take his place AND hunt him down at the same time. Not sure who I would like to see in a role like that, though I keep thinking of Scarlet Johanson (maybe my memories of Iron Man 2 are still strong).

Vin Diesel as Bane…hmmm…that could have possibilities…

Catwoman is a great counter-balance to Batman’s brand of justice. In a way, she’s the flip side. Batman is as rogue a character as Catwoman except that everything he does is for the good of Gotham. Catwoman is only out to do what is good for Catwoman. She’s a temptress for Batman to give into his desires and therefore become a villain. To make things even more interesting, Catwoman sees Batman with parts fascination and pity. She is probably the only person out there that understands his desire and drive. The reasons they would be perfect for each other are the same reasons they despise each other.

I would like to see a villain that we haven’t seen in the movies before. I loved that they brought Ra’a al Ghul and Scarecrow in Batman Begins. Killer Croc would be be more in line with Nolan’s grittier style. Some decent make-up on Micheal Clark Duncan could work. If they do Riddler go with Christopher Eccleston. Both Neil Patrick Harris and David Tennant are too pretty. I see the Riddler as more of a tall gangly nerd.

If it’s Riddle - I think it should be Alan Tudyk or Edward Norton. Either one would frakkin nail it. And Riddler is the next logical bad guy to have IMHO.

Penguin would be great too–can’t think of who could play him.

Either way some news should be coming soon since they are aiming for a '12 release

If any of you have the chance - grab “Joker” graphic Novel and your local comic shop - pretty much as a realisitc spin on all the baddies in Batman and is a decent DK sequel…

you know I don’t really think I want Catwoman (maybe its that awful Halle Berry movie thats effecting this judgement)

considering all the focus on the mob in the first two movies of this arc I could also easily see the Penguin coming in at the right time considering the rest of the mob looks to be rendered to almost nothing (hell Joker burned all their money)

Penguin coming in as a top notch Mob Boss here and then maybe having the Riddler be out there at the same time in not really a side roll but not a main one either (kind of if Scarecrow had maybe 10-20 more minutes of screen time in Batman Begins) or he could be hired by The Penguin to find Batman’s true identity, if you use him that way you wouldn’t need to have him be the same character as the Joker but in a different costume

I think almost every option is out there right now, I think the only characters we know for sure won’t be in the next Batman movie are Robin (I was told that from the beginning Nolan said he wouldn’t put him in) and Mr Freeze

as for Penguin

assuming we’re going to potray him as a tough as nails Mob boss I think I would go with hmmm…Clint Eastwood 20 years ago? :stuck_out_tongue:

seriously though ya that one is tough I have a few thoughts but none of them I think hit the nail on the head

Dicaprio, a good actor all around but I don’t think ‘Mob Boss’ when I look at him

Damon? doesn’t look mean enough

Liam Neeson I could have seen but he’s already been a different character

Alan Rickman? good actor but I don’t think he could nail it and really make me fear him

Edward Norton? I think he’s a good actor but to me he comes off as a weak individual (I’m sure somebody will argue this point to me) but I don’t see him being a cut throat lethal mob boss

Michael C Hall? not sure how he would jump to something like this, he comes off as being a great person to play a tough individual but not someone who could gather followers

anyone else have some thoughts or new people to throw in?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Riddler.

Well, when you put it that way…

I could see that working in Chris Nolan’s vision of Gotham.

Rumor had Philip Seymour Hoffman attached two years ago. This has been debunked, but I could see him selling such a character. He’s just a good enough actor to be able to pull off just about anything, has the pudgy look (maybe an excuse for the nicname, which could be offensive to the character himself?) and is not too pretty.

That is from an Esquire interview, I don’t think we will see the penguin in this one.

Very well said! Catwomen is one of my favorite characters in comics, I would love to see her in the movie, but I don’t know if its going to happen.

One idea tossed around was Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ras al Ghul. She could be a villian and a romantic interest for Batman, and it ties in nicely to the first movie.

I like the idea of Talia. I mean, I don’t see Batman even needing a love interest because when it comes down to it, if Rachel Dawes is dead, then Bruce really isn’t interested. It does create an interesting plot point, since the crap hits the fan at the end of TDK, and Batman is at his lowest point. Bringing in the daughter of his “greatest” enemy and a hottie to boot would make for some great drama.

Worst case scenario - Megan Fox as Catwoman!!

I trust that Nolan will go the route of finding an actress that can indeed, actually act.

Yeah, I don’t think this kind of casting is Nolan’s style. Even Katie Holmes was able to do more than simply be a prop.

I will be the first to say that I don’t know a lot about the Batman universe, really all I know is from the Tim Burton versions, BB, TDK, and Arkham. There was a rumor that Jonny Depp would play the Riddler, I think it would be interesting but he would probably be better as Jack Rider AKA Night Crawler. The Penguin and Catwoman, would be great to see. If done right Bane and Killer Croc would be cool, but considering this version is set in a more “realistic” universe it might be hard to pull off(but not impossible).

they managed to pull off a guy in a purple suit wearing clown makeup didn’t they?
