Cthulhu and the Lovecraftian Mythos

I never got into the original books, but I’m a fan of what others have done with them since.

Not familiar with the mythos? HowStuffWorks explains.

Neil Gaiman has a couple stories up for free. (A Study in Emerald is particularly good if you’re at all familiar with Sherlock Holmes.)

Hello Cthulhu mashes up Lovecraft and Hello Kitty.

Cthulhu has run for President.

The H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society keeps the flame alive, including themed holiday albums.

There’s also the HPPodcast, which I’ve yet to give a proper listen to.

And, like every other celebrity, he’s taken a turn at being a talkshow host.

I love A Study In Emerald. Its got so many twists and surprises

I haven’t read many of the original stories but I really like the whole mythos. And if you like board games, there are few good ones like Arkham Horror. Be sure to set a few hours aside if you attempt to defeat an Old God. Its long and challenging game.

Oh, I had no idea. Looks interesting.

I’m (slightly) more familiar with Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu RPG.

I recommend the HPpodcast mentioned earlier. I’m reading the stories and listening to the podcasts. The two guys who run it are very entertaining and I find I appreciate the stories better after listening to them discuss it.

Welcome aboard, Dean.

I did get a chance to listen to their latest stop-gap original stories episode, and I loved it. I’m going to make sure to give them a proper listen.

Gameplay from an indie XBox game “Cthulhu Saves The World” (presumably for dessert.) Via Gay Gamer.

Anyone else summon Cthulhu in Scribblenauts?

Cartoons for Cthulhu?

I can second the recommendation for the H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast - excellent, excellent stuff.

Also … Cthulhu Carols and one of my favorites …

My only knowledge of Cthulhu is through this really fun and off-the-wall board game called “Cults Accros America”

I’ve played it many times and it’s a blast.

On that note, check out the Cthulhu rpgs. Fun stuff.

I am really looking forward to this movie coming out soon:

Oh yeah, this has been in production for a while now. HPLHS usually does interesting stuff. I’m a little concerned that they’re overdoing the reveals (less is usually more) but then I haven’t read the original and am not sure if it’s required.

See the second trailer for what I mean:

Advice Lovecraft

Um. I got nothin’.

This has been out there for a while, but it’s just so much fun I thought I’d post the link. Happy belated April Fools Day.

Lovecraft’s stint as a writer for Whitman Chocolates:

Any excuse to repost these…

It’s… Sort of a… Lovecraftian… Sitcom.

Just watch.

I finally got The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu from Netflix. It was on “Very Long Wait” forever, so I don’t think they have many copies, but it’s just frakkin’ inspired.

The special effects and costuming are surprisingly well done for direct-to-DVD, but probably the best part is a truly epic animation sequence, featuring Cthulhu ripping apart a T-Rex with his bare hands and fighting an army of shoggoths, using the severed head of a triceratops as a weapon. :stuck_out_tongue:

If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

That looks like a fun movie! I shall look into it.
