Criminals in Star Trek.

What happened to these criminals? Is Starfleet really a facist organization or did the civilian legal authorities get their day in court.

Do you think Tom Paris had to go and finish his sentance ( or at least have a legal proceeding where the law took into account his service and let him go?

The Maquis crew: Were they pardoned. Did Starfleet excuse the AWOL starfleet officers, did the Federation forgive the civilian terrorists. Did they get their day in court? Did the familys of dead Federation citizens get payback for their crimes ( or did saveing an admirals son wipe that away)

Did Admiral Leyton and his Followers get out of jail during the Dominion war ( since they were right in the end and actualy went a long way toward helping save the federation by forceing them to be a little more prepared for the war) They are at least as forgivable as Maquis terrorists who killed federation and spoonhead civilians.

If the Voyager crew get’s amnesty… what about Eddington’s people? Do they get the same freedom.

What about LORE? If data has been legaly proven to be sentiant… is Picard allowed to legaly just dismantle him with no trial. DID lore get taken back to Starfleet? DID he leave him with Hue? If he did go back to the federation, don’t they have an obligation to turn him back on and give him a trial?

any other criminals that I am leaving out that are worth questioning?

Oddly, this is something that came up much more often in TOS. They had penal ‘colonies’ (more like isolated institutions based on what we’ve seen.) Harry Mudd was sentenced to one (it’s unclear if he served/completed/escaped.)

Kirk had some problems with a couple of them (Tantalus and Elba 2 (the latter of which is the entirety of Kirk’s “green-skinned-women” experience, and it wasn’t very satisfying.))

what I was going for was more of a “let’s nitpick the legal practices in Trek”. Just being a nerd.

Trek has went back and forth a few times about criminal justice. A few times it is refranced ( in and out of cannon) that criminals are rehabilitated by sci-fi means. Other times, they just do their time. In the case of Talos there is a death penalty.

The Garth of Izar episode is one of my favorite episodes in TOS. It is a realy often overlooked example of all around trek greatness. It has great aliens, a good bad guy, science fictiony plot, Landing party trapped on the planet, Scotty in charge of the ship and of course the really hot “Batgirl” green orion slave girl. ( the only orion slave girl seen after the pilot (and menagerie) despite how much people always talk about them being in Kirk’s series) There are more orion slave women in one season of Enterprise than in the whole of TOS.

There’s more in one shot in that one episode of Enterprise than in all of TOS. Telling how it sticks in one’s mind, though. (although Enterprise’s PC-&-B&D explanation mucked continuity up a bit.)

The Talos thing I alway took away as a “we can’t deal with these guys, we just have to keep our guys away under dire consequence, lest they become guys we can’t deal with” (ala Charlie X, et al.)

I don’t understand. I did see the episode but I don’t get what your getting at. My memory might not be hitting on all 8 right now. If you have a moment… please explain.

By the way Dukat’s daughter was one of those slave girls. ( she was also the naked girl in the hot tube in charlie wilson’s war)

The conceit of that Enterprise episode was that the Orion Slave Girls secreted irresitable phermones, and they were the ones who actually ran their society.

Art imitating life ?

Well that is just stupid. Sure they COULD do that. i am sure than many do, TOS established that they were slaves. When cannon is in conflict… go with Kirk!
