Craziness happening around the word

Gonna start this thread where things can be posted which are unbelievable stupid and showcase how far some parts of humanity have “evolved” in the last centuries.

First up I found this Australian report about the ghost cities in China. Tens of millions apartment units were/are built and built, but nobody goes to live there. Either because it might be unattractive in that area or the prices are much too high for the majority of the Chinese people. They are doing this idiocy only to present an increasing GDP, but the value for the people are nearly non-existent.

I know this is not what this thread was intended for, but it’s certainly crazy. Out of curiosity, I looked up how many views ‘Friday’ has…

W…t…h…?!!

Now, please resume the normal craziness…

Ok, here’s one more in line with this thread…

http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2011/apr/13/scott-walker/scott-walker-makes-half-flip-hiawatha-train-fundin/

When Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced March 29, 2011, that he would seek federal funding for the Amtrak Hiawatha train service between Chicago and Milwaukee, it stirred plenty of attention.

After all, the governor was asking the feds for a portion of the same $810 million in economic stimulus money he campaigned against – and then refused – for high-speed train service. That money would have paid to extend the Hiawatha from Milwaukee to Madison.

Walker rejected $810 million in federal stimulus funds the state had spent years seeking and received for high-speed rail service between Milwaukee and Madison. He’s now asking for up to $150 million of that money to improve the existing Amtrak service between Chicago and Milwaukee. And he would use “high-speed” federal funding for a “slow” train. And he would spend more for the train barn, while claiming it would save the state money.

How’s that for crazy?

first I thought this was just an old April Fools post. Words escape me when trying to understand this.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/04/15/stamp.mixup/index.html?hpt=C2

"When the U.S. Postal Service printed 3 billion stamps last year, it thought the image was of the Statue of Liberty, the iconic symbol of freedom keeping watch over huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

But a sharp-eyed stamp collector uncovered the truth. The image on the 44-cent stamp was of a replica of the Statue of Liberty more than 2,000 miles away, keeping watching over throngs of sweaty Vegas tourists yearning to get rich.

The U.S. Postal Service on Friday confirmed that the image was of the statue at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino, a fact that was made known to them by a stamp collector a few weeks ago.

But, attempting to make the best of an embarrassing situation, the Postal Service said it would have picked the image anyway, and it said news of the mistake has added enthusiasm to the stamp-loving masses."

Really?? Seriously??

Here we go…

"Benton Harbor emergency manager strips power from all elected officials

The Emergency Financial Manager of the city of Benton Harbor has issued an order stripping all city boards and commissions of all their authority to take any action.

The order, signed Thursday, limits the actions available to such bodies to calling a meeting to order, approving the minutes of meetings and adjourning a meeting. The bodies are prohibited under the act from taking any other action without the express authority of the Emergency Financial Manager, Joseph Harris.

Actions such as Harris’ are explicitly allowed under a newly approved law which granted sweeping new powers to emergency financial managers. That legislation had drawn large protests, including attempts by some protesters to take over the state capitol building. The sit-in resulted in numerous arrests.

Harris’ move comes as Detroit Public Schools’ emergency financial manager Robert Bobb announced that he would use powers granted to him under the act to change union contracts."

Should note that, according to MSNBC, St. Joseph Michigan is 89.5% White, has a population of 8,508, and has $33,034 per-capita income. And, right across from St. Joseph is Benton Harbor, Michigan with a population of 10,235, is 85.5% Black, and has $10,235 per-capita income. I’d also guess Benton Harbor predominately votes for Democrats in elections… As others have stated, so much for wanting limited government.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2011/07/light-bulbs-congress-house-vote-/1

"Amid the debate over raising the nation’s debt limit comes a vote in Congress on … light bulbs.

The U.S. House is going to try on Monday to block the federal government’s transition from traditional incandescent light bulbs to more energy-efficient options.

Environmentalists and their allies say the debate highlights real issues about energy efficiency, pollution and costs.

The Natural Resources Defense Council issues an analysis today showing the energy standards could save $12.5 billion annually when they’re fully implemented in 2020. Some states – such as New York, Texas and California – would save more than $1 billion in energy costs by using more efficient light bulbs."

Really?

They should be holding off if you read about health issues they are finding out about now that they’ve been in use. For example this video from Canada, the corporate PR dude avoids answering direct questions:

I and I’m guessing most people don’t keep their bulbs that close to them. Could it be like cigarettes? Maybe. But, I’m comfortable enough with their findings as oppose to FDA and the approval of drugs.

We have that European Federation lex about 1-2 years since no more normal bulbs are allowed to be built and shipped to shops. It is all only profiteering and the citizen is more and more deprived to make his own decision.

No response from last post? How about this one?

Topeka Kansas Considers Decriminalizing Domestic Violence
http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2011/10/09/topeka-kansas-considers-decriminalizing-domestic-violence/

“In Topeka, Kansas city officials are considering a controversial move to decriminalize domestic violence in the city after the Shawnee County government offloaded domestic violence enforcement on to city governments. Cities facing budget cuts and lost revenue are turning to many different cost-cutting measures, but this is perhaps the most extreme. Already, the county government has turned away at least 30 domestic violence cases.”
