Correspondence on Weapons for James Bond

Here’s a link of some correspondence that a gun aficionado gave to Ian Fleming, in regards to James Bonds’s gun choice. Mr. Boothroyd, as the man was named, sent Fleming not only a thorough “thesis” on what type of gun Mr. Bond should have, but also photographs to go with it.
The man’s arguments were so thorough and in-depth, Ian Fleming responded with great zest to the man’s letter, and immediately changed the gun Bond carried in the next novel, “Dr. No”, as well as giving the name of Bond’s armorer the name of the weapons expert that was a fan. More here:

Thank you for this post. I found it quite interesting indeed.

So that’s what a 50 year old fan letters looks like

Today, Mr. Fleming would be relentlessly hounded on the inter-tubes by vast legions of angry firearm fan-boys. Probably before the novel/movie even made it to print. Instead in 1956, he received a polite useful letter from a calm earnest gentleman from Glasgow.

I am not sure what this says, but I think it says something.

Thanks again.

P.S. Leave the Beretta on the desk 007.
