For me the coolest ship ever would be the Macross SDF-1. It transforms, it has a super distructor cannon of doom, it has a city inside of it. And is just bad ass!!!
There’s always the C57-D as well…
Yeah and I respect that. But I think it would go against the credibility of Star Trek if they had the Enterprise on the one hand and on the other hand a ship called, say, the USS Lexington and it looks all aerodynamic and organic and has green bubbles coming out of holes in its hull or something like that.
I’m sure you’re aware of what I’m about to say, GR, so I’m rallying behind you and defending the Star Trek vessel designs. In Mr. Scott’s Guide to the Enterprise, it goes into all the reason why the ships look the way they do. It has to do with how warp drive works. Later on when we encounter the Borg cube and sphere, another manual explains that they use different tech and therefore different design. Star Trek has a whole line of Tech manuals and have always been really great about how stuff works in the Star Trek universe. That’s why watching Star Trek makes you smarter!
Incidently, I was watching Kimmel last night and he has Hayden ‘Anakin’ Christensen on. Hayden is promoting the film ‘Jumper’. Kimmel was making fun of geeks and how Hayden will always be linked to the Star Wars fanchise, etc. Hayden was gracious and when Kimmel started joking about how teleportation will never happen Hayden corrects him and explains that they have already done it. Power to the Geeks!
Don’t forget the onboard SUV with which to go out and cruise for blue-skinned chicks!
I always had a lvoe for alot of the ships on Babylon 5. Those Menbari ships just planned rock, same with the always awesome star furies. But I really loved the Shadow ships. They could take you out in a second, and they glided like ugh…things that remvoer very well. Plus, even though the shadows would take over the minds of the pilots in the ships, you got to lay in it, but they looked like alot of fun to ride lol.
And trust me, if the Tardis coutned as a spaceship, its on my list.
Either the good Ol’ Galactica or the pegasus
I find the Borg cube quite interesting, apparently it takes ruthless mechanical efficiency to realise that it doesnt matter what shape your vehicle is in space, there’s no air resistance, so just make a cube since space wise that’s the most efficient.
You know, I forgot one: the TARDIS.
It can be hidden easily, bigger on the inside, can travel thru time & space, and comes with a really hot British man.
I’d have to say that it’s the U.S.S. Cygnus from The Black Hole. I think that it’s the overall textural quality - looks kind of steampunk-ish, gothic. Love the scene when the Palomino first encounters it, it was all dark and lifeless - than all the lights come on. Plus, it could hold its position at the edge of the event horizon. Now that’s got to count for something. Just imho, of course…
years ago I read about a study conducted with kids that actually proved that their science skills rose just from watching star trek
After watching the finale of BSG, the Galactica is now, officially, my favorite ship ever. I mean, it broke my heart when Tigh said “she broke her back. She’ll never jump again.”
I really like the new cylon basestars.
Mine will ever be IAS Excalibur from the Babylon 5 Series. it had some really cool stuff. sad that it’s spin off series dead too.
My favorite is Serenity from Firefly.
The Oddesy from stargate
awesome lasers, can slow down time, it can travel through time, Amanda Tapping…
How can you not like a ship with two big boobs out front?
I have to agree with Emilyfromohio. The shadow ships where just plain scary. When they were flying in formation over the Centauri homeworld that gave me chills.
Wow my first reaction was definitely not boobs.
Aside from the Falcon from Star Wars, I am totally with you. The SDF-1, reigns supreme in terms of capital ships!
