Way cool. Enjoy.
That’s insane - that’s US44c per litre! We’ve had prices up to $AU1.75 per litre, at the moment it’s around $1.20
On a flight to London it takes around 5-6 hours just to fly over Australia, then usually a 2-3 hour refuelling stop in Asia. Then about 15 hours to Europe. When I got there we took 4 trains to get to the hostel, and I was so wrecked. I hadn’t slept at all on the plane
Well, we’re buying a car. We test drove 2 today, and are doing 3 or 4 more tomorrow… with any luck, we’ll have a car before Thanksgiving. So this is a bit of a preemptive cool craaaaaaaaap post, but I’m so excited about this working out that I can’t help myself.
That is so cool!! What an adorable figure.
casilda, preemptive congrats on getting a car. That can be such a pain. I’m glad it’s working out for you.
I hope your new car keeps you safe. Good luck in buying the car.
Just a few weeks ago, it was over $3 a gallon, so $1.69 is heaven. I know other parts of the world pay a lot more than we do. I remember when my best friend was stationed in the UK, he could get gas on base for US prices, but if he was out and about, it killed him to have to fill up at local prices nearly 4 times what he’d pay on base.

Gah! I know when my sister went to visit a friend in Australia, it was a crazy long trip, nearly 30 hrs. And I was wrong about my trip to London (my brain is tired, sorry)- total time was 11 hrs: 1 1/2 hrs from Cleveland to Charlotte. 2 hr layover in Charlotte. And then 7 1/2 hrs to London. And it was $315 round trip. (I just looked up the itinerary on Orbitz.) At the airport, I waited a few hours for a 2 hr bus ride that got me to Mildenhall Village, and then a 10 minute cab ride to his house in West Row. By that point, all I can remember is it was nearly dark when I got there, but it was late November, so it got dark early. And then the next day, since he had to work, I ended up taking the train BACK to London to take his sister to the airport and then right back to West Row. It’s only 70 miles each way, but still. Exhausting! I got real familiar with the rail system and Kings Cross station real quick.
And I didn’t sleep at all on the plane either. I watched a ton of movies, though. Oddly enough, “I, Robot” was one of them.
Me, too! I got mine last week. Here she is, hanging out with her new friends.
Who’s the guy in red behind Lady D? I mean Kaylee? Is that Evil Homer?
And what’s with those weird ones in the back? What cartoon are they from?
Yup, that’s Evil Homer. He and the Good Homer come together in a set (in more ways than one.)
You have an interestingly divers set of friends.
I don’t know how people manage to sleep on planes. I wish I could. I love the train system in London, I wish ours was as good. However it’s all a bit stressful when you’ve just landed and haven’t slept for so long. I made the mistake of getting a midnight flight, but I had been awake since that morning, so I was seriously sleep deprived.
The best way – and I’m not kidding – is a complicated formula of sleep patterns, time differences, Jägermeister, NyQuil, and carefully selected headphones listening (spoken-word, music, and something with a narrative elements like audiobooks).
I mixed Nyquil with liquor ONCE. If that doesn’t knock you out, nothing will.
What’s in NyQuil?
I think some kind of analgesics and maybe alcohol. It’s a popular cough/cold medicine that just knocks you O-U-T. They advertise is with a line like “The stuffy-head-fever-cough-cold-night-time-so-you-can-get-some-rest medicine.” And it works.
So, basically, it’s Jägermeister. But available in different flavors.
Jagermeister, as near as I can tell. (Or is that the other way around?)
They had to change the formula so they could sell it over the counter. It doesn’t work as well anymore.
A lot of our cough and cold remedies have been reformulated recently also because of misuse
I think NyQuil has a strong cough surpresent that makes you sleepy.
Benadryl is an allergy medicine that will often put anyone out. Many medications for motion sickness also have it.
I still say just relax. Take some good music and your own pillow.
actually, I think it’s the alcohol–highest content “inactive ingredient” in NyQuil
