Kiera and Carlos investigate when two murder-suicides happen in the same day - where the killers immediately committed suicide after eliminating their victims. The only tie between the two is a local computer gaming company, where both were software testers, that’s been doing more than just developing video games; it’s developing an immersive holographic program and Kiera decides to try it out. The effects on her are devastating - Kiera’s HUD system short circuits and her internal electronics go haywire. Kagame and Liber8 attempts to take control of her, while she is in this bad state. Alec works frantically to reboot her processors and manages to save Kiera from killing her partner. At the same time, Liber8 discovers who is behind Kiera - Alec, while Alec also finds a previously unknown file in Kiera’s systems - discovering it is actually a message from his future self, addressed to him.

This episode had quite a few gems in it. We learn that:

  • The Liber8 soldier members were created by Luca Ingrams programming at Satech through “voluntary” experiments of mind control (and adrenal drugs as per earlier episode Wasting Time.) Killed Liber8 member Stefan Jaworski was the demonstration unit.

  • We learn that the “volunteers” were actual indentured to Satech Corporation for 20 years

  • We learn that Matthew is heavily and romantically interested in Kiera. He goes so far as to stalk Lucas to get the information that she wants in order to further their relationship. He also admits to stealing the Time Travel Device Segment just to keep Kiera with him in the 2012 time period. But most importantly Kiera has now confirmed that Matthew has the segment.

  • Lucas gives the specs for liquid chip technology to Fred Nettinger as payment for assisting Liber8 in implanting mind control in Kiera. That technology is the basis for Alec Sadler’s Satech and now it is the hand of others.

  • Alec find the files that future Alec left for 2012 Alec. A message from Future Alec!!!

  • Matthew poses as a Section Six operative to Carlos. Carlos has no idea that Matthew is a Liber8 operative.

All in all I thought it was a pretty tight, well executed episode. This is definitely a seriously under-rated series.
