Constellations

The one part that previously bugged me was that Erf had been confirmed as the correct planet because the constellations from the Map to Earth on Kobol matched. However, we didn’t see the exact shape and form of the constellations indicated the MToE. They probably really did match what Gaeta saw when orbiting Erf. However, the final Earth is probably at least still in the same vicinity of the galaxy as Erf, because Orion is clearly visible near Erf and Earth. I just figure that once the Colonials got to Earth, they just fit new constellations (some that might even incorporate the same stars, although in slightly different patterns) to the colonial symbols. It would make a nice tie in to our own mythology…

The Map on Kobol lead them to Erf, not Earth. You bring up a good point that the constellations map to the Zodiac on the wrong plannet though. Hrmm.

Yeah, that was my jist all though probably inelegently presented. If Erf and Earth are somewhat near by, then the constellations could be close. Besides, the nature of constellations is that it takes quite a bit of immagination to make them match the symbols they represent. Constellations matching the 12 zodiac symbols can probably be found in any star field (although, not necessarily lying within the solar ecliptic)…

I wonder if it was the same planet - but that jumping through space, ripped the space-time continuum, and brought them to a new “reiteration” of the same planet - baltars commnets at the end, suggest that in this BSG universe there doesn’t need to be another erf or earth.

So are you suggesting some weird interaction with jumping away from the black hole?

Welcome, to the boards BT!

I think they are nearby each other, in the same way that Caprica and Kobol were near each other… now when our Earth is destroyed in 2000-3000 years, we go off to find Erf, which maybe by then would become a lush green planet again.

Rinse, wash, repeat… RDM was lying when he said in the LFS that he got the Cycle idea from Peter Pan… He got it while washing his lovely locks

Here are some intertwined thoughts:

  1. At first i thought that it may have been an accidental phenomenon. But after i was thinking that the only way humans/cylons would learn a lesson was to actually go through the process again and to retest the system (as mentioned at the end by the angels) and so now I think that the song (and its coordinates) are actually a way to restart the cycle. Based on the dialogue in the last two episodes, the only way humans/cylons would know that they broke the cycle, is to go through it again unscathed. The only way to test a system or model is to make sure it has consilience with new data…in this case the new learned material.
  2. When Kara saw her dead body on earth (along with everyone else seeing the earth as a destroyed radioactive planet; and even the cyclons remembering their deaths), she (and they) may have seen a failed reiteration.
  3. And perhaps the one problem with this system they reside in, whether be a computer program or real, is that there are glitches. these glitches may be purposively placed, as were the angels, for them to learn, or natural probabilities that become identifiable via space-time travel - who knows.
