Console General Discussion

Plus they are all basically the same story :stuck_out_tongue:
Beautiful em0 boy meets beautiful em0 girl who needs to save the world from a power hungry beautiful bad guy. Along the way they meet a tough guy, a free-spirited pixy-ish girl, a mysterious outsider, a wise-cracking oaf, and a cute animal… -thing. Together they find powerful ancient spirits to aid them in battle, visit towns to buy better weapons and magic spell, loot stranger’s poorly hidden unlocked treasure chests, and ride giant chickens before the boy and girl fall in love and have enough power to kick the bad guy’s ass. And someone dies on the way. HA! SPOILERZ!!!111
FFXIII will also be on PC.

It was definitely the 360’s year at E3, in classic Microsoft-style they out did the others by copying what the other guys did best and offer it in their catch-all product hehe. Nintendo really dropped the ball and devoted themselves to the casual gamer. Sony once again did not ‘bring the games’ in the crucial period, not enough exclusives to save their sinking ship. What did save the PS3… is Blu-ray. While it was some masterful PR, it was not a very effective gaming strategy. Microsoft could be correct with their prediction to outsell the PS3 this gen… but I like how they carely avoided any reference to Nintendo’s current market dominance with the wii and DS haha

I actually still haven’t picked a next-gen system. Not till recently they have finally been getting games I want to play, but most of those recent spectacular games are on PC as well. I think I am still leaning towards a PS3, after a hefty price drop of course, and a wii, after greater availability (and their own modest price drop… if ever). I don’t like console shooters or Madden, so why rush hehe. And personally, I’m still neck deep in unfinished PS2 and PC games. The 360 has inched out a superior lineup this year (tho I still prefer Sony’s key exclusives), but yeah… I just don’t trust M$ with all the hardware failures, monopoly-style approach, and the titanic piece of shit that was the original xbox.

I gotta disagree. Sony had the far better conference imo. Though Nintendo definitely lost, what a failure of a conference. I mean honestly. “WE’RE RICH AS FRAK! HERE HAVE SOME MORE CRAAAAAAAAAAP NOBODY CARES ABOUT”

Also your summary of FF is only accurate past 7. Haha!

haha yeah they are all slightly different but definitely after 7 they ironed out their archetypes and ran with it. I still enjoy them. The older games have the beginings of each of the elements, and their uniqueness made them stronger games for it. Been itching to get back to FF12 which has had the best gameplay and world design I’ve enjoyed so far… just can’t stand the protagonist design… yeesh, I’d hate to see the guys they rejected.

Sony I thought was under HUGE pressure to deliver and respond to Microsoft’s methodical dismantling of the old Sony advantages of console sales, and superior exclusive titles. I just didn’t feel like they successfully turned the tide in their favor. They really need another huge exclusive (What is taking Killzone2 and GranTurismo5 so long?) Sony and Microsoft are basically parading around the same games. Great games… but not wining anyone over to either side. Resistance2 looked pretty weak compared Gears and even Halo3. They even wheeled out MGS4 again which just looked like a desperate reminder. Sony’s exclusives from last year, MGS4 aside turned out to be mostly duds while Microsoft scored big hits with their exclusive titles. Microsoft is crushing Sony in the online market with xbox live. Sony’s Home is gonna be ‘too little, too late’ at this rate. Sony did win the Blu-ray HD-DVD war but the lost their edge where it really matters: the games. Sony is ‘on the ropes’ and they aren’t exactly touting consumer confidence with a ‘satisfactory’ showing and pleas for gamer patience.

The sleeping giant is sadly, still asleep.

I think both will reach some equilibrium but evening out the playing field should be seen Sony’s loss of their dominance and for M$ I would call it a victory, for bringing down the giant and securing their place in the market. Unfortunately, it was definitely Sony’s game to lose. Third party developers are making their money on 360, and it seems they know that and believe it will likely stay that way.

Nintendo is in an interesting position, they are the industry leader for the first time in 10 years or something. And they celebrate by resting on their laurels? Wrong move. They claimed new innovations will defeat rivals and imitators, but just touted some new upgrades to existing hardware. They didn’t really deliver any games either and basically turned their backs on their core fans in exchange for their new casual gaming fans. A shocking display they will probably be regretting this time next year.

The future is multi-platform, and may the most sales win.

The Playstation 3 is a good product. It’s Just that Sony does not know how to market it. If Sony really wants to sell us this thing, they need to put a price drop on it. And just because you can watch blueray does’nt meen we want to. I’m pretty sure dvd’s are cheaper and there are more titles out. Plus Sony needs something to really combat xbox live. But Microsoft and Sony both did pretty good at E3. Nintendo on the other hand, decided to show us more Wii Sports instead of something else. I think Sony, and Microsoft need to take advantage of nintendos slip. Sony is going to have a lot of great games, and so is microsoft. These two need to push this. Nintendo has a surprisingly bad games to try and push. I mean, with 2 new Tom Clancy games around the corner, and neither are for the Wii, nintendo needs to figure something out.

As a PS3 owner, I can say that without a doubt it’s the lack of a game library. People can’t think of anything they’d want on PS3, but they can name three or more big titles on the 360 that they’re soiling their pants for.

That and everyone and their friend plays Xbox Live and people want in on that. PSN? Not so much.

The reason why the ps2 is still doing ok is becauss of all the games. It has the largest game selection and is cheap now adays.

As a PS3 owner, I’m kinda let down that this seems to be 360-only. The only Star Trek game I ever really liked was the ooooolllllld SEGA arcade one from the early 80s, where you basically flew around docking at stations & shooting at Klingon ships. The graphics were those spiffy vector graphics like Asteroids & Tempest, etc. Hey, I like to fly & shoot, what can I say.
