That was my most favorite scene between these two. Soooo cute how he pats her.

eh… yeah, i clearly went to the wrong school… and met up with the wrong people…
ok, i am still obsessed with Community. here is what i think about season 2.
Season 2 has a lot of great and brilliant moments, such as the two part paint ball episode, the pillow fort episode, the fat Neil D&D episode, the Professor Professorson conspiracy episode, Troy’s birthday episode, Stop-motion Christmas and the list goes on, but over all, i didn’t enjoy it as much as season 1.
The main reason is I didn’t enjoy the vibe of the group this season, especially with Pierce. In season 1, as misguided as he is sometimes, Pierce still always managed to care about the group or end up helping the group. Pierce slept with the new Spanish teacher so everyone will pass the final. He help Troy to develop a sneeze that won’t cause ridicule. He helped Shirley with her public speaking. In season 2 Pierce spend most of his time trying to fit in and when he feels he is rejected, he tries to wreak havoc for the group.
I see Pierce and Jeff as very similar. The only difference being Jeff knows there is only one thing he is good at, talking his way out of or into anything, while Pierce pretends he knows how to do everything. Both of them stuck with t he group because even though they try not to admit it, they are looking for a sense of belonging and desperately looking for a family. Now, Pierce has demonstrated in the second episode of the series that when his friendship is rejected by Jeff, he can turn to the dark side by trying to humiliate Jeff in front of Britta. So his season 2 arc is true to his character. But a whole season of that loses the group is a family feel for me, and the show lost a little of its charm.
Doesn’t matter how clever the show is, if the characters stop being likable it will become hard to care. I hope as flawed as these characters are supposed to be, at the end of the day they are there for each other.
saw this on the NBC forum

Inspired by “the unjust cancellation of Firefly” my premise to you.
Firefly Episode of Community dream sequence.
Jeff Winger as Malcom Reynolds
Shirley Bennet as Zoe Washburn
Ben Chang as Hoban “Wash” Washburn
Britta Perry as Inara Serra
Pierce Hawthorne as Shepard Book
Annie Edison as Kaylee Frye
Star Burns as Jayne Cobb
Troy Barnes as Dr.Simon Tam
Abed Nadir as River Tam
And as a twist, it’s all Leonard’s dream.
Abed as River XD that’s pretty awesome.
But i’d rather see Pierce as Jayne…
Excellent points. The Pierce-Jeff parallels were stronger and more compelling in season 1. Season 2 did violate the show’s own premise when it left you wondering why the people were bothering with each other. But all in all, still my fav. show.
I had a tough time with this episode. On the one hand I loved it. On the other I had issues with Pierce. But after many many rewatches, I saw a series of questions for this episode posed for viewers in community.tv site, and I had a whole new perspective just reading those questions. Now, I have absolutely no issues with this episode. It is now my favorite Community episodes. It’s thoughtful and funny and it has a lot of heart.
These are the questions:
http://community-tv.livejournal.com/833148.html
Community from a personal perspective:
- Did you play Dungeons and Dragons when you were younger (or until now)? How did you like the adaptation made for this episode?
- Were you given a nickname similar to Neil’s? How did you feel about it?
Character study:
3. Before we knew that Jeff was behind the “fat” in “Fat Neil”, what did you think was the reason Jeff paid attention to Neil? Did it strike you as un-Jeff-like that he went out of his way to help another student, given what we know about him?
4. How would you relate the Pierce of old with the Pierce we saw in this episode? Can his antagonistic attitude be blamed on the drugs he was taking?Opinion:
5. Which was your favorite study group D&D character?
6. Do you think the D&D game would have fulfilled its purpose even if Pierce had not taken over it?Other questions:
7. Kyle/Lavernica or Hector/Elf Maiden?
8. Favorite line and scene?
9. Anything else you’s like to discuss?
What really got me thinking was question 6. After some thought, this is my views…
No, without Pierce, the purpose of the D&D game wouldn’t have been achieved.
The purpose of the D&D game was to prevent Neil from committing suicide. Neil is exhibiting all the signs of someone about to quit the world. He gave all his prized D&D collections to Jeff when Jeff pretended to be interested. Annie knew these signs because she is a recovered drug addict, and when Jeff realized that it is that serious, he couldn’t just let it happen since he was to blame for coining the nickname Fat Neil.
The problem with the game without Pierce is that no one is really interested. No one is interested in D&D and no one is really all that interested in Neil. In fact, if they played a fairly normal game of D&D even with Abed being a great Dungeon Master, they probably never would have much interactions with Neil afterwards anyway. And Neil knows this is a group of people pretending to care because they want to help. While that is very nice, it means very little to someone who is about to quit the world.
But Neil forming an connection with the group because of Pierce being their common enemy isn’t really what saved Neil either. What really save Neil is him realizing those that make fun of him are simply doing so to escape from their own insecurity and vulnerability, realizing that is what saved him. By the end of the game Neil honestly feels sorry for Pierce. That is why when the game is over Neil asked if Pierce want to play again next wee, because Neil knows Pierce is afraid of being left out.
So it made sense when the ending credit said that Pierce saved Neil, while learning very little. And Pierce just reacts to his insecurities by shoving everyone away, when his very own fear is that he would be left out, ignored and forgotten. Unfortunately the irony is that it leaves him even more left out. But I certainly understand where Pierce is coming from, I am no stranger to behaving in such foolish ways.
I think this episode dealt with suicide in a very thoughtful way, while not making it preachy and special episode like. This reminds me of 1x03 when Abed showed his father his first short film. It’s moments full of heart like this that makes me love the show.
Some one really talented just did a series of wonderful Community shipper artworks. There really is one for every and any kind of ship you can think of:

Community is back tonight! Also, seasons 1&2 are each about twenty bucks on Amazon right now.
They’re excellent sets, too: Every single episode (both seasons) has cast & crew commentary.
They’re excellent DVD sets, too: Every. Single. Episode. has cast-crew-and-or-director-producer commentary.
hmm … me likie my Trudy Campbell
And I thot only Abed could have such dance-number day dreams. lol
“Not cool, not cool, not cool, not cool, not cool, not cool, not cool!” Abed’s shriek is so out of this world.
Did you also think that there was something going on between Jeff & Annie during the holidays??
Hemlock = Schierlingskraut (aka. a gift/poison) Poor Abed! And Bad Britta! lol
I really need to get onto this “Inspector Spacetime” series!
I thought Jeff’s dream sequence implies that nothing went on during the break. And for someone with such a huge crush on Jeff , Annie sure was willing to cut him out of the group quick. Consider how much it took her to be willing to cut Pierce out .
I loved this week’s episode a lot better than the premiere. Everything is meta, from the Asian Annie (what they originally wanted before casting Alison Brie. Jeff telling Abed that no one is going to cut away, and then it cuts away, that had me rolling…
what was going on between Britta and Chang? Why the hello song? what the heck was going on XD
and I guess from the reactions from Jeff and Annie, they definitely didn’t hook up during vacay.
I guess Britta and Chang only wanted to have a purpose in life again. Chang as an Authority and Britta as somebody fighting against rules and Authority. Both find themselves comfortable in this weeks episode conflict situation.
EDIT: And I just found this video (dunno if you can access it, but I can using the ModifyHeaders Firefox AddOn) where Ken Jeong explains this situation: http://www.nbc.com/community/video/behind-the-scenes-on-geography-of-global-conflict/1359300/
Maybe Jeff and Annie will be more like Big brother/Little sister this season.
Just now got why the teacher was in a wheelchair and not later. And I totally knew where beforehand where Chang got his handcuffs from. lol
So many EasterEggs!
Annie Kim’s UN she runs alone. And the student representing Germany is quiet like a stone. Sadly not like our foreign minister Clown Westerwelle.
Subtitles also helped me to understand Jeff’s Zombie reference…ohhhh, Annie goes ballistic.
And now after you mentioned it hansioux, I also picked up onto the “cutting away” line.
Loved how Abed’s and theirs solution could be seen as a reference to Fringe.
It’s so great that Community exists in the same universe as Fringe. It makes me happy.
but like Jeff explained in this episode, all the big brother little sister act is just a way to suppress his impulse to get into her pants…
I meant that in an Not-kinda act way. Lol
Last weeks episode was the best ever. I can’t wait to see more of evil Troy and evil Abed!
