Cold Call

Hi all,
Thought I try to ask the question here. I am not one to give a cold calling person my C/C info. I was just more curious about the (Possible) scam going on here.
Anyway, have had two phone calls from the states 253-802-0308 a Seattle number. Both times sounds like a call center from India (no offense to anyone).
Both times they try to tell my computer has a problem, since they have a windows based error coming from my computer. I have a Mac (I don’t run Windows based software).
I have never followed through to much with this call and usually hang up.
Does anyone know what they might be trying to do or scam?

Thanks

I always Google the phone number when I get those calls, especially on my cell phone. I checked yours and I say SCAM!

Yeah, 800notes is the go-to place for odd calls. Bookmark it.

Yeah we have had some really bad reports on this. Unsuspecting mark receives a phone call from an apparent large software concern and requests to access their computer online. In doing so they read keystrokes and gather passwords etc for online banking and so on.

Have been many people in Oz that have been caught…

Just hang up! Golden rule is if you haven’t sought the service then it’s suspect.

This was a subject on last week’s Security Now podcast. Sounds like an international scam thingee. The transcript is available at http://www.grc.com/sn/sn-318.htm (to get the part where it’s discussed, search the document for “cue Australian accent.”)

Thanks guys, makes a lot of sense to me now. These days of selling collected information I couldn’t even guess where they got my number from.
Thanks again.
