I love this film. I saw this a long time ago. My family was at a friend’s house having a BBQ on a night just like tonight. The family had cable (WHT, I think) and it was showing this. I remember being really impressed that we were going to see a movie in someone’s house.
This film sparked my imagination.
This film is most like the TV series ‘Amazing Stories’, also a Speilberg production and a childhood favorite.

Morgan Freeman took this air traffic controller’s job. Doesn’t he sound like Morgan?

Not over the internet, at least. 
I love these less is more films. I miss them. The storytelling is so much more prevalent. Nowadays, we would see the alien the kid is looking at. I think the scene is so much better watching his expression.

I love all the gag bits in this.
My favorite is the flash light bit. His reaction to it turning back on is precious.
Love that he hits the guardrail coming off the highway. Shows he’s still a bit freaked out.
