Civilization?

Any civ fanatics out there? I have been playing the series since civ 1 came out. Currently I still play civ 3 and civ 4. I like aspects of both games, so I don’t really have a favorite. My favorite part about this game is how much fun it is, even when you lose.

For example, I was playing civ 4 a few weeks ago and it went something like this:

I was playing as America and I started on an isolated continent. I decided to divert nothing to my military, and put all my recources into a space victory. I played most the day, and by the 18th century I had begun the long process of building my space colonization ship. I am discovered by japan, who immediately demands tribute. I refuse, and forget all about them. One century later as I am about a decade away from completing my ship who shows up? Japan, but this time they nuke all my citys along the coast, and send in troops to mop up. 10 turns from victory, and I am defeated in two. So I loaded a much earlier save, and proceeded to build enough nukes to destroy the world. I nuked japan into oblivion, but then the other countries all declared war on me. Oh well.

I’m most definatly a Civ Fantatic, I too have been playing since Civ 1. I had a go at Civ 4 but I can’t get it running smoothly on my PC. I can’t remember if the last time I tried it was before my RAM upgrade, but I might try it again soon

Now where did that Giant Radioactive Monkey go?

I love this game, but I can’t play it because I don’t have 12-hours to spare. I used to play the older version, and I was really adicted. The only real playability problem was that you had to manually assign tasks to the engineers to build road and farmland, but I know the latest version eliminated that. I the mose recent version, but I’m afraid to really get into it; so I gave it to my son.

I have (had? don’t know where it’s packed away now) Civilization II and yes, it is an awesome game. But, I agree with you Dismal. Who has 12 hours to spare to play it? It is so adicting—you always say to yourselve “Just one more turn”.

Wow… I hear your voice so clearly, it’s like you’re that 6 living in my head…

Despite my name: “Thot”, I’ve never been inside anyone’s head. And I fear that red dress wouldn’t look so good on me.

The game is definitely time consuming, but worth it for those rare days when you are bored out of your mind, and there is not much to do.

By the way Magnus, there are some mods out there that should allow the game to work on lower spec computers, but honestly, the game ends up so stripped down, that you might just be better off playing civ 3.

Lords! My husband was obsessed with that game a few years ago. I remember I really liked the soundtrack.

The Call to Power source code was released a few years ago. Anybody mess with it?

If I had better cooling for my laptop it probably would work fine. I quite enjoy Civ 3 anyway. Also has anyone played Birth of the Federation. It’s kind of a Civ game only set in the Star Trek universe. It’s a lot of fun. I started replaying it there.
