Camcorder suggestion

I wasn’t sure if this was the spot to ask, but here it goes…

I’ve got an older JVC miniDV camcorder (GR-DVP3U) and am wanting to upgrade - got the ok from SWMBO. So I’m looking for suggestions on camcorders - I’m thinking one that films HD, and probably flash based, but not sony as I don’t have any of their memory stick stuff (cameras are canon…). I’ll be using it for vacations and also my 2 kids.

I’ve heard good things about the CANON HF10, but it’s getting hard to find, and also I guess the newer HFS10/HFS100 both rock but are lots of $$$.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. Also, I’ve read a few review on some of the new DSLR cameras shooting HD, but not sure if that would sub for a true camcorder. I do hope to get one, either a Canon XSi or T1i for my birthday (it’s the big one…).

My wife got me the Vado HD recorder for Christmas, and I have been very pleased with it. Not a lot of cash, really good quality and compact. I love it.

Not probably what you want to hear, but the Flip camcorders are cheap enough to get two. And if you’ve done any kind of live recording, you’ll realize the benefit of that.

I’d recommend a Cybershot
