Bulldog. 'nuff said.

After a 10 minute, red-bull fused theory session, I must submit to the forum the following theory:

  1. All of the cylons with names (Simon, John, Leoben, D’anna, ect) never go by another name, unless they abandon their name outright (namely, John, as it would seem)

therefore:

  1. Daniel, whoever this is, most likely still uses the name Daniel.

with that established, I must propose the following:

  • Daniel, to have the most dramatic effect from a writing standpoint, would be an established character, rather than someone conjured up with such little remaining time left in the final season
  • The only character I can think of named Daniel was Daniel “Bulldog” Novacek.

Could he, after his capture an subsequent torture be yet another skinjob planted within the human population playing his role in this epic tale?

Seems like a reasonable theory. I’m interested in the community’s thoughts.

Bulldog’s definitely a candidate… in Hero, it was clear that he didn’t actually escape, but was let go by the Cylons (by Cavil, namely, if this theory is true), just like the FF were “released”.

A solid point, my friend, a solid point indeed. The Cavilons (<-- Like that? Just made it up!) do have a tendency to plant skinjobs within the military.

And also, to supplement my evidence regarding the model names being static, I would like to point out that the ONLY cylon models to not have a consistent name would be the Sixes, who have proven to be special time and time again.

The creator of the Cylons in Caprica is also called Daniel (Daniel Graystone, to be interpreted by Eric Stoltz in the Caprica series).

And Sharon/Athena - Athena chose a new name to purposely separate herself from the rest of the 8s.

Athena is her callsign, not her given name. The callsign was a name change, yes, but not in the arena I am arguing. Her fleet registration name is still Lt. Sharon Agathon. Some 8’s choose not to have a name, but those who do use “Sharon”.

I’m not so sure about this theory at all. It seems too neat to have met him. I really think Daniel is Kara’s father, just not Novacek.

Why? Several reasons one of which has to do with pigmentation. Yes, a white child can be born of a mixed racial couple but often the skin tone is a softer colour than the bright blonde blue eyed girl we see. Kara Thrace’s origin seems to be the ONLY thing these guys actually planned ahead.

One of two possibilities exist to me:

  1. Ellen and Saul are her parents and she was given to Thrace to hide her.
  2. Daniel is her father, someone we haven’t met yet, he fathered Kara specifically with Socrata to make her stronger then disappeared to protect her.

In either case, I believe that Kara was hidden for the same reasons that Hera is being protected so strongly. Only Ellen can tell us.

That’s fair, I can see your point on those levels.

Still, If skin color must come into question, it would be prudent to point out that there is are only two dark-colored cylons currently. To allow one more into the group, speaking purely from a writing standpoint, wouldn’t be criticized.

I highly doubt the skin color thing is even an issue. Kara’s father makes a lot of sense, although I’m not convinced that hes the artist everyone keeps mentioning. Music is a form of art, yes, and her dad was an established musician, but I think that may be more of a red herring.

I guess my argument is that a big tendency of this show is to turn established characters into ever more important ones by way of making them cylons. The final five are HUGE representatives of this policy. It would seem to me that in these last 5 weeks, it would be really anti-dramatic to create a new character for this last puzzle piece, rather than take one last small character and propel them into infamy. Yes, kara’s dad isnt “new” but he was only really ever mentioned once and it was a rather dull mention. Bulldog, being a cylon prisoner and all, has a much greater connection to the mythos of the show.

Daniel is dead - not boxed. It’s a Cain (Cavil) and Abel (Daniel) thing. Not enough time left for more Cylons. Needed to wrap up the missing #7 and establish the full extent of Cavil’s evil.

I caught that on a rewatch last night… Ellen pretty much says Daniel is dead, and it sounds like for good. I’m now thinking that we’ll find out who Daniel is, and it will be major, but he may not actually show up in the show, maybe flashbacks or something.

With a big “E” Evil.

I’m guessing they are going to delve into this in “Caprica,” and it will have something to do with this Graystone.

Graystone = Organic Matter Transfer System, or whatever Anders called it?

I am pretty sure Bulldog was let go by D’anna.

Also, this was in someone else’s post but I forgot to multi-quote it, there is one major exception to the consistency of names-- sixes. They all choose different names.

I don’t think Daniel is Bulldog but it’s an interesting theory.

True.

Agreed… I’m guessing now that Daniel is Kara’s father, who we’ve seen as Head-Leoben.
