Okay, I haven’t been on the forums in quite awhile (crazy how much they’ve grown). I figured I’d take the opportunity here with my return to be the first one (seemingly) to admit that I both read and enjoy the Buffy Season Eight comics. Now, before the un-harmonious roar of moans and groans starts up…stop it! Yes, I hear you out there!..I want to try to justify my position.
I’ll be the first to admit that the Buffy franchise isn’t for everyone. First and foremost, you’ve got to be patient to enjoy the series – mostly because it really sucked for about the first 1.5 seasons. After that, you’ve got to have a great capacity for suspension of disbelief. Let’s face it, blonde teen and her Scooby gang hunting the things that go bump in the night tend to send off some realism red flags. Lastly, you’ve GOT to appreciate the twisted and irreverent sense of humor of Joss Whedon.
For those who dig the show, and haven’t read any of the comics, I highly recommend it. Unlike the lame kiddie comics that were released concurrently with the show and ran for the majority of the series, these are absolutely 100% canon. All of the stories are written by Joss and the other original writers, and it is in every sense the official continuation from where the show left off.
Trust me. Even if you aren’t sure about Buffy, this is a comic series to at least check out.
