Gods (small G) wouldn’t necessarily be omnipotent, particularly when they’re cut off from the source of their power.
Oh, and spoiler alert!

That whole Joyce’s illness juxtaposed with Riley down the dark path, set to that haunting music, was sheer Jossy genius.
Damn him.
Oops, I forgot someone here might not have seen a 9 year old episode.
The disturbing thing is looking at the copyright and realizing how old this show is.
Glory’s toady really knows how to grovel.
And you can see the Buffy-Riley alienation starting.
That last scene with Riley left out in the cold is downright painful.
Poor guy.
It started long before that. Buffy was just too self-absorbed to notice.
To add what you said before, Joss is and evil, evil genius.
You are right. At the moment the self-absorption now has a partial reason with her mom, but before …
That’s Buffy’s problem. It’s always about her. Fighting monsters and saving the world, no problem. But anything else that’s even remotely complicated? Expect her to bail and leave someone else to pick up the pieces.
She’s easily my least favorite character of the show.
