No. This experience gave him military knowledge, that he retained after the fact. That will come up again, repeatedly.
And, like the rest of the Scoobies, his hand-to-hand skills improve dramatically over the years.

Well, he did. When he came back, it seemed like he experienced a feeling of being trapped within Angel. They both have the same memories, no matter which one is currently “in charge”.
What about “The Zeppo”?
Wait, what the fu… happened to Buffy and Angel keeping their distance? He’s sitting on her bed while she’s “slipping into something more comfortable”? To be followed by snogging? Am I the only one who’s not okay with this?
(And here I was… saving myself for Buffy… sob…)
Grr… Argh…
It’s just a natural progression in the relationship between a minor and a corpse. Isn’t it a beautiful thing?
Well, if you’ve had the accent for the first 150 years of your life, living in America for the next 100 years will not help you lose it. I think.
Maybe being in America during the Great Depression made him ashamed of his Irish heritage, so he worked hard to get rid of the accent.
Some things can’t be explained. Like what happened to his Philly accent that he had in the pilot.
Izzardy response: Just a body with a pulse… or not! Pulse optional!
Whedonesque response: Oh, here lies Angel, my autumn flower… somewhat less attractive now that he’s all gross and corpsified…
Bridean response: But you see, he’s only mostly dead…
There is Philly accent? I never knew.
Ooh, multiple choice. I like.
Please tell me you’re kidding?
Sure. Kinda Jersey-adjacent.
You see, whenever someone says anything, the first thing that pops into my head is A) Izzard quote B) Firefly quote C) Princess Bride quote. I thought I’d share what goes on in my warped mind with you.
So… Philly accent… it’s like New York accent, but a little depressing and more angry?
Whoa, where did you come from? You’ve been so quiet during the frak, I had assumed you fell back asleep!
And, no, I’m kidding… I don’t know what Philly accent is.
Thanks for the glimpse. I have a similar process with some Python and Buffy thrown in for good measure, with an occasional Fight Club reference as well.
LOL! ExacTly. And just a sprinkling of Penn Dutch.
Google does.

I didn’t frak this ep. I had to get dressed for work. Now I’m here. Yay.
And yes, a Philly accent is very East Coast. Not quite as hahd as Bahstin or New Yawk, but definitely different than Western PA.
Different than Southeastern PA, even. It’s much more Jersey than PA.
I don’t know enough of SE PA to know. I just know my brother-in-law’s fam, and they’re definitely Philly.
