BSG Re-Watch: Taking A Break From All Your Worries

It’s week thirty-nine of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and after a little time off to watch Razor, it’s time to move on to the season three episode “Taking A Break From All Your Worries.” So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party? There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…

Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free. We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.

Note: Some readers/listeners asked us to leave comments open on the frak party blog post as they enjoy commenting more than forums. So if you have the time, keep an eye on the blog post every now and then, too, so we don’t leave 'em out in the cold.

What a great episode if they’d found a better construction for the story than the bar. Wonderful stuff on relationships at different levels.

And Dee is a gold digger hanging on to Lee because she knows he’s a future president.

that is EXACTLY what I said when I saw the latest season 4 promo vids. HE’s gonna be PRESIDENT!

Butterfingers!!!

Adama is really frakking scary in this episode. We’ve seen him be all quiet and intimidating before, and we’ve seen him yell at people before, but I’ve never been as frightened of the guy as I was when he’s torturing Baltar and his voice goes high and quavery: “or you’ll drown, alone, in the dark…” He really gets into the torture more than I thought he would; the man has a dark side.

Lee for President!!! OMG, please don’t say it’s so! Tough, maybe that would free up Roslin and Adama SR. for some looooooooooove action…

This episode is so disturbing, on so many levels. Everyone hates Baltar, everyone wants to kill Baltar, but they ALL want/need what’s inside his head. The whole mixing sex with torture that was part of his basestar torture experience is not echoed here, and I wonder why head six deserts him. Something to do with the drug nature of the torture versus the strictly pain torture of previous episode???

I’m surprised Saul didn’t “accidentally” tear one of his eyes out. I find him much scarier than Bill, though with Bill you can never tell how he REALLY feels about something or someone. I always wonder how he really feels about Chief, Dee, and Helo. Mixed messages at best. But, I guess that’s what makes him such a great leader - he doesn’t put all of his personal cards on the table and muddle things up (note to BOTH Lee and Starbuck, and a wag of the finger to Roslin).

FWIW, I do think that Baltar knew about Gaeta’s work with the Resistance.

I don’t see Lee as acting president in series. His precidency lies farther in the future on Earth, if they survive. He is a leader.

It’s a bit disturbing watching head Six help Baltar try and commit suicide by tying his noose and kicking out his bed, then seeing him awaken in the tub of goo surrounded by the fanciful Sixes who then try and goo drown him.

I loved the way Roslin asked Gaeta at the end of their pow wow about Baltar, what he was doing attempting to visit Baltar late in the night, it made me think of the flashback scene back on New Caprica with Gaeta, Adam and Roslyn because once Gaeta left, Roslyn made a comment about how odd Gaeta was and how glad she was that he finally left. The way she asked him the question, it almost sounded like she thought he was nuts… well, I guess butterfingers kinda was nuts though, so it was a valid question, even if it did end up saving Baltar’s life.

It’s easy to forget sometimes how good these actors are, when Roslyn visits Baltar, first she hands him his glasses, which brings up the flashback of when he did the same for her when she was in a New Caprica jail, then when she lights the cigarella/cigarillo, the look on Baltar’s face is PRICELESS!

I HAVE to agree Adama is frightening when he tells Baltar that he’ll let him drown alone and in the dark unless he reveals his secrets about the cylons and watching Roslyn’s disturbed reactions make the whole scene that much scarier.

I don’t think Lee made his decision about whether to stay or leave Dee until he was walking down that corridor and he bumped into that guy and dropped his wedding band. I think it was at that moment, when he thought he had gotten drunk and would never be able to find that band, that he realized what he’d be losing and at that moment, he decided that it was too much to lose Dee.
