In a real life or death emergency, if I’m in a situation where everyone has to cooperate to survive together, and someone says “excuse me, who put you in charge?”, that person is getting a punch in the face.

It was just another in a series of somewhat larger budget “event” movies and miniseries that came out about the same time. This was awesome, but I never really thought it would ever really go anywhere, just like all the others.
There was a thread a while back where someone (Roman Sandstorm?) calculated the time between the flash and the bang and estimated the distance using the approximate speed of sound. My feeling on that? The ability to animate cool special effects does not mean you understand the real-world physics of a nuclear blast wave.
