But…NOTHING HAPPENS in “Deadlock.” It’s just an episode that ties up a loose end that only became a loose end when RDM “re-broke” the last ten episodes during the writers’ strike.
It’s no Black Market, but still…

I disagree that NOTHING happened in that episode (Caprica miscarried, Gaius’s cult gets lots of guns, the Final Five vote to stay with the Fleet, and Ellen and Saul (mostly) get back together), but I know that Deadlock isn’t a popular episode, especially since it came right after “No Exit,” a episode I thought was one of the weakest in the season.
Sure we learn a lot, but it’s just 45 minute infodump with an escape/surgery at the end. I liked it better the second time I watched it, but it’s never going to be a favorite. Back-to-back like that, I think both episodes really suffer; it’s like tonal whiplash.
But I liked Deadlock because while it is a different type of episode, I don’t mind the less-action, more-character episodes, which is probably why “Daybreak, Part 1” was my favorite of the last ten.
I don’t HATE “Deadlock” (as I said, it’s not “Black Market”), but I prefer No Exit (which is up on my rotation tonight). I actually think that one’s one of the better episodes of the last ten. It’s a nice break from the two parter uprising arc, which is so intense, and I like the Ellen/Cavil stuff. It’s like suddenly David Mamet stops by to write an episode, just with less cursing.
Sure, there’s lots of stuff in it that would’ve been nice to be shown rather than told, but it’s so much that it begs almost an entire series of its own.
Hmm…I smell spinoff…
Great, another show for me to obsess over. Damn them and their genius!
LOL! Wouldn’t that be cool, though? A show about the final five’s journey paralleled by the first cylon war, culminating in some of the events seen in the Razor flashbacks?
Someone get me Ron Moore on the line!
Okay, I take it back. I watched “Deadlock” last night and it’s better than I remembered it. “Tonal whiplash” after “Blood on the Scales” isn’t the description I would use anymore. I think it’s more of a change towards a more lyrical ending for the series, like a symphony that ends with a quiet movement rather than bombast.
Update compelled by fairness. Heh.
The premiere of Glee tied for first in its time slot. So Mindy presciently judged Glee’s imminent popularity. Sadly, you know Virtuality never would have approached first.
Dude doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Any true fan of The West Wing would at least mention the absolute horror of what they did to the character of Toby Zeigler.
BSG’s ending wasn’t what I expected but I loved it and even if I hadn’t - it wouldn’t negate the total genius of the 4 seasons that preceded it.
I’m shocked that someone who would pick Buffy in his must see list, would fail to see the genius of BSG, SATC and The Sopranos. I haven’t watched all of The Sopranos, but everytime it’s on, I’m glued to the TV. SATC was some of the tightest story telling I’ve ever seen on TV and LOL funny. And we all know BSG is great. I’m not a hater on the ending. It was more upbeat than I expected, but I was very happy with it.
