Book Club Lobbying: December

All,

Welcome to our third installment of Book Club Lobbying. The idea is simple: the first half of the month is dedicated to rallying around the book(s) that you want the book club to take on. The following books are up for your consideration in December. The lowest ranking books were dropped from the last round and new books have been added to keep the list around 15.

Voting will commence on November 15.

Adams, Douglas - “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”
Asimov, Isaac - “I, Robot”
Brooks, Max - “World War Z: An Oral History Of The Zombie War”
Carr, Caleb - “The Alienist”
Dick, Philip - “A Scanner Darkly”
Durrell, Gerald - “My Family and Other Animals”
Finney, Jack - “Time and Again”
Gibson, William - “Neuromancer”
Heinlein, Robert A. - “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress”
Lem, Stanislaw - “Solaris”
Scalzi, John - “Old Man’s War”
Shaara, Michael, - “The Killer Angels”
Shelley, Mary - “Frankenstein”
Silva, Ulises - “Solstice”
Steakley, John - “Armor”

No Yiddish Policemen’s Union? :frowning:

It only got two votes buddy. It will be re-added in a few months.

Ah I misunderstood, I thought we were still going by what was discussed in the Book Selection forum… my bad!

OK, I’m officially lobbying for:

Gibson, William - “Neuromancer”
C’mon! We’ve got to add the other tentpole to the cyberpunk tent.

Scalzi, John - “Old Man’s War”
It’s just fun. Also broaches a few issues that are extremely current in sci-fi.

Shelley, Mary - “Frankenstein”
It’s the first Sci-Fi novel! (Says I. No argument will be broached.) Also, free to read online.

Haven’t read Solstice, but have read about it. Looks good.
So does Old Man’s War.
Can’t believe I never read Time & Again, this too looks interesting.

Time and Again is in my top 5 books of all time. Truly a beautiful book. It actually works very well with The Alienist which is my most favorite book of all time. They both take place roughly during the same time period in NYC…turn of the century 1900s…but Time and Again takes a halcyon view and The Alienst takes a view of the underbelly of the City.

Unless it’s some version I’m not familiar with, I’m pretty sure I, Robot was written by Asimov, was it not? You have it down as Bradbury.

I’m going to have to push again for Neuromancer. C’mon, give us one more cyberpunk novel, then we can do something else. :stuck_out_tongue:

Neuromancer for sure.

Solaris.

Give it a shot. Look over the edge of your own plate.

Lobbying period is over, let the voting begin!
