blu-ray reccomendations

My DVD player has finally bit the dust which allows me to rationalize buying a blu-ray player. I definitely want wi-fi connectivity and I’m looking forward to being able to stream content. Any suggestions on a model?

And I’ll also have to rebuild my content collection, starting with the new Star Trek movie!

Well I picked up a Samsung a few months ago. Does everything except wifi. It’s hooked up to a component 34in HDTV tube set. Have to say it’s been great even at 1080i. Working on building a HTPC with bluray to hook up to a flat screen but thats a build in progress. If you need a stand alone go with a good name. Not one of the el-cheapo brands. Otherwise you get what you pay for. Just one more thing the Sammy I got was on sale at Wal Mart. Look for a bargain if you can.

BTW the new Star Trek was great on it.

Looks like CNet recommends a samsung as well (editors choice is the bd-c6500). Thanks for the tip!

Argh! That kicks the pants off my LG BD390 (lacks Rovi TV listings, Blockbuster, and Pandora), and cheaper to boot. I’d definitely consider the Samsung if I were shopping today.

I got the 6500 on sale at Sears for $199 and a 6’ HDMI cable for $30…

Then went to sams to pick up Star Trek since Sears didn’t have it and got a 2 meter HDMI cable for $17, the Star Trek 3 disc set for $22 then went back and returned the $30 HDMI cable from sears.

Well played! HDMI cable price ripoffs are unbelievably common and there are a lot of suckers out there, sounds like you avoided a costly mistake.

If you ever have need for many cables or an odd length, check out monoprice.com, they’ve got dirt cheap HDMI (among others).

I’m passing on Blu Ray and holding out for the SyNOR-G system with RealView™ temporal cameras that give you a quantum-entangled clone view of the actual filming set. The model with the Sony Reality Splice (SRS) editing technology, of course.

I’ll see you SyNOR-G with my HOLOroom in a box system by TOSHIBA. Not only is it fully immersive it also has chroniton precision remote control.

Yeah, if you believe the Chronitron Precision Remote tracking format will catch on. Sony is going to employ hundreds of movie enthusiasts to painstakingly duplicate all the exact cuts by hand, Toshiba’s just generating their cue files by mechanically running the film through software and calculating out the exact moments.

Sure, it’s a little more precise, but where’s the SOUL?
