Best Star Trek series

I remember a few podcasts back, Audra said that no one in her class recognized Spock. Only one student had ever watched Voyager, and that was just because her parents watched it. :frowning:

Where do you make the cut-off?

Me three, Pike and Lady D. Don’t we get extra votes because we’re older? I guess for me, ST:TOS is kinda like the Adam West Batman show. When you’re young and watch those shows, you take the litterally, you don’t get the cheese.
Maybe that’s a bad comparison though, because Batman was intentionally cheezy.

We have a saying here, I don’t know if it translates very well, it goes like

“After me, The Flood.”

Sounds like Yoda in Halo.

So basically you yourself are the cutoff age betwixt the generations? What an amazing stroke of good luck that was!

There was a Yoda in Halo?

That is the meaning that was supposed to be conveyed. It really is amazing.

I’m planning on buying the first season of DS9 this week because Chuck told me to. I odn’t know why I picked DS9 t o start with. Most of my experience with Trek was Enterprise. How horrible an idea is it that whenever I think of Star Trek, besides Spock and Kirk, the second image that comes to mind is that show? Gah!

Okay, Enterprise wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t Star Trek. It got a little better in its thrid season, but I never got past it to see the final season.

Wait! I think I know my problem with Enterprise. It really did want to be a dark side of Trek but to me, it just came up short. But it gets a c for effort haha

Enterprise is a confused step-child, with tired parents and over-bearing older siblings. Let’s do a prequel, let’s destory Earth, let’s do a story-arc, let’s do an homage…never really made up their mind what they wanted and it showed.

Em, DS9 is great. But to be honest, you should watch the staples of the original series. You can watch them at cbs.com You can get a real feel for what Star Trek is all about.

Here’s a list:
City on the Edge of Forever
Space Seed
Mirror, Mirror
Amok Time
Trouble with Tribbles (cuz it’s just fun)

All those above capture the essence of Star Trek and they’re great episodes to boot. Let us know, it’s always fun to talk with a newbie. You get a new perspective.

Boy has it been a long time since I seen those. I think I haven’t seen a single TOS episode since I was a young kid. I have all of those in the enhanced edition, but never watched them, the only one I sometimes watch is Balance of Terror, my fav TOS episode.

add to the list

Devil in the Dark
Obsession
The Enemy Within ('cause it’s always fun to watch Shatner battle his stunt double)
Shore Leave (also fun)

Shore Leave is my absolute most guilty pleasure favorite episode.

Also:

Journey to Babel (More Spock’s Dad)

The GF adds:
Piece of the Action (Kirk goes native)
Naked Time (Everyone gets drunk. Minus alchohol.)
Patterns of Force (Kirk, Spock, Nazis)
and she agrees with GR that Balance of Terror (Kirk, Spock, Hot Romulan Captain) needs to be there.

actually, that would be The Enterprise Incident.

Balance of Terror was Spock’s dad as romulan commander, wedding ceremony interruptus

ETA: unless, of course, the hot romulan captain to whom you refer is Mark Lenard

No, that hot Romulan captain was female. According to Memory Alpha, the actress who portrayed that Romulan was Joanne Linville.

Either I’m just too young to appreciate the glory of older women, or, if she’s really hot, then the clothes ruin everything for me.

That’s it. I think I have a mental block on that title b/c of the fanzine.

It’s her voice. Very seductive. Even Spock was taken with her. As he put it, “It was neither artificial nor casual.” The scenes between them were subtle and yet hot.

the uniform doesn’t do much for her–the mack-on-Spock outfit is better

also remember: hot young chicks are not ship captains any more than hot young studs are: experience counts

Yeah, you/re too young. She’s a hot babe—(copper-based blood notwithstanding) And, naturally, I will be in my hotel room tonight which will have to substitute as my bunk.
