It’s been a while since I caught BBC’s original, Being Human, but I do remember liking it. Now I’ve just seen a promo about Syfy doing their own reimagining. I have a feeling they’re going to take the show in a slightly darker direction. Has anyone else caught the original? Any thoughts on the coming reimagining?
Can they make that show any darker. I LOVE the show and have been a huge fan since last year. I love how the fantasy is mixed in with the human drama. On top of that is that it reminds me of my roomie days. There isn’t much difference between a werewolf having his monthly in the living room and a 22-year-old whose idea of employment is improving his dance moves by wall-slamming.
I like this show, I was worried about the changes they made after the pilot but in the end they made it better. The fact that they set it in Bristol rather than the usual London or Manchester was a refreshing change, the third series is set in Cardiff, it’ll be interesting to see where they take the plotlines now. Finally something good from BBC Three, whodathunkit!
I don’t know about SyFy making their own version of Being Human. I like the BBC version just fine.
It reminds me of some old roomates I had. I still love how he said something like, we don’t have to turn this into an episode of Oprah. If the syfy version can get that type of humor mixed in with the dark, dark stuff going on, well, I’d watch it.
i have both series on blu ray which i got as a box set, it’s very pretty and very very dark, i may dig out series two again and continue watching it.
Thing is imho this is very much sci fi, i mean vampire, werewolf and ghost. how much more science fictiony do you get?

I was really against SyFy bastardizing this series, but then I heard that Mark Pellegrino (Jacob on LOST, the devil (?) on Smallville, I think, and numerous other bad guy roles) had signed-on to play the Herrick role (called Bishop on the SyFy version) and now I’m intrigued enough to give it a go. It premieres Jan. 17th, which I believe is when new episodes (series 3) of the British version begin airing on BBC3. So, I’ll give it a go to hold me over until I can get my BBC eps on BBCA. I still predict I’ll prefer the BBCA version immensely, but I am intrigued.
Speaking of Mark Pellegrino and Being Human…here is an interview with Mark about his new role on the SyFy version of BH. I haven’t read the whole thing yet so be forewarned that it could contain spoilers.

So what did you think of the first episode of the new series?
I LOOOOOOOVED the BBC version. So of course it was a no-brainer that I’d at least check out the SyFy version. I watched the first ep the other day, and … let’s just say for now I’m reserving judgement. It wasn’t horrible. A lot of it was taken shot for shot from the BBC version. The acting was at times a bit off, but I think it has promise. I’ll continue watching.
Okay, I’ve seen both parts of the pilot. I fell in love with the show all over again. I will watch both versions religously because there is a lot going on here. I really enjoy the Bishop character better that Herrick because I actually believe he might be concerned with Aidan, but still allow us to know he’s got an agenda. Both versions do a great job of combining the high concept with real human drama. I wish long lives for both versions.
So far I have liked the show (syfy) but I have also skipped watching the bbc version because I figure if the syfy version sucked I could always fall back to the bbc to give me better sci fi
