My faith in the BBC is almost restored by Being Human, which balances horror, hilarity and pathos as well as Buffy or True Blood. Yes, I never expected to say that, but it’s true. BH is a dark comedy drama about a Vampire, Werewolf and Ghost who share a house in my former domicile of South Bristol. Has anyone caught it in the US or elsewhere outside the UK? What do you think?
I have watched the entire first season on BBC-America. I love this show… however, Fox is going to build its own version here, so we may not get the new season on BBCA, and get stuck with a watered down crap version…
Good news, BBCA announced that they WILL be carrying the 2nd AND 3rd seasons of Being Human starting THIS SUMMER! I follow BBCA on Facebook. The date appears to be July 25th! Woot!!! Here’s the quote that showed-up on FB.

BBCA has acquired season two and three of Being Human. Season 2 will premiere in late summer with the third season following shortly. Watch a sneak peek at BBCAmerica.com

Hello, America?
We would very much appreciate it if you would stop making crap versions of our shows… it is most annoying.
Thank You!
Amen, brother.
I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment…however they are culpable because they keep giving our networks the rights to do so. I wish they’d invest more money in bringing their shows to a more widespread audience here. BBCA ticks me off because so much of their programming is Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares…6 frickin’ nights a week! One night a week they are showing new original programming. Hello?! Why are you bothering to have your network in this country in the first place when you are only showing 1 or 2 hours of new programming a week?! Absolutely ridiculous and disappointing!
I loved The Office, Mr. Gervais and his crew made a fantastic show. Then I heard that it was being remade for the US and figured that would be a disaster.
…and I was wrong. The US incarnation of The Office is, I believe, a better show.
No, no, don’t throw things! Violence isn’t called for! I’m just expressing my opinion, but as much as I enjoyed the original The Office, I believe that the NBC version is funnier, has better story arcs, is more engaging, and most importantly of all shows that it’s possible to do something great with the source material.
For every 5 ‘Coupling’, there’s potentially a ‘The Office’.
Yes, I have to admit that I prefer the US office, though I like both version.
While the BBC is great for factual programming, current affairs and arts radio it’s been clear for some time that current BBC drama is generally inferior to the best US drama: e.g The Sopranos, The Wire, and BSG naturally.
Being Human is great because it totally bucks that trend. BTW in case anybody take me for a self-hating Brit, I’m of the opinion that UK literary SF rules. Pity none of it gets adapted for TV or film.
What about C S Lewis, Arthur C Clarke, and J R R Tolkein?
loved the show can’t wait for season two:cool:
That’s funny, because we tend to have the reverse view. I think part of it is that we generally see each other’s best stuff, while the painful embarrassments are left to die quiet deaths.
Plus we remake your stuff way more often, which is a dicey proposition to start.
And there is nothing better than the UK Cracker, nor worse than the US version.
