Bear McCreary & BSG music

Hi everyone,

I did a search and did not find this info posted yet. If I missed it, I apologize for the duplicate post.

Here is a blog entry from Bear McCreary’s website, with info on upcoming CD releases. Sounds like he is responding to fan requests and is releasing a lot of music this year.

Enjoy!!

Thanks for the link, LisaSLC! Yay to the idea of a 2-CD package for Season 4–there’s just too much good stuff, I knew there was no way he could cut it down to 1 disc and do it justice.

Thanks for the link. I have the soundtracks for Season 1,2,3. Just love the music!

Yay! I’ll definitely buy the S4 soundtrack when it comes out. One of the coolest parts of the meetup was playing the S1 soundrack while driving around Dallas with smarx, furpie, and glimfeather and commenting on how cool it is not to be listening to those songs alone.

I cannot wait. I have made BSG ringtones for my iPhone, and need some more. I really hope the new version of Watchtower is included. With 2-discs, it has to be, right?

Awesome! I made one out of Kara and her Head Dad’s performance a few episodes back. Now whenever my phone rings I say “What the frak? That’s the song!”

“It’s in the frakin’ phone!”

They need to have one of those concerts in New York, I would totally go.

I had a friend hook me up with the piano Watchtower theme and now when my wife calls that’s what comes up, and when I receive messages it’s the 6 theme, but I try not to think about making ringtones with iPhones… I’d go absolutely mad making thousands of PERFECT ringtones.

But I am getting Seasons 1 and 2 of BSG music coming my way shortly here. Very excited to dig deeper into the music behind the show.

One thing I think everyone would love is a CD of the live concert they did at the Roxy in LA. If no recording was made, then I suggest Bear hold another live concert that includes the Season 4 soundtrack, record it, and sell it off. I know I’d certainly buy a copy.

I got the 3 season soundtracks a few weeks ago and I am loving them. Passacaglia and Battlestar Sonatica are just beautiful (even though the latter at first puts “oh no, more Cylon ship!” into the head). Bear McCreary is extraordinarilly talented and seems like a cool guy. Who elses blog would have taught how to play the Six and Boomer themes on my piano.

I was listening to “Watchtower” on my surround sound system and I had my eyes closed, really enjoying it. When the bass kicked in I heard some rattling, which I first ignored. Then I couldn’t ignore it and was sure I blown the speaker. I looked down on the floor to the subwoofer and there was a sheet of newspaper that was being moved across the floor by the sound. It finally moved about six feet, just by the sound. Which was awesome.

Just started listening to my first BSG soundtrack disc, the collection for Season 1. I knew I liked the music, but I’m finding I enjoy it even more than I thought it would. Great stuff. This guy just turned 30?

Did anyone else catch the theme from ALIEN incorporated throughout certain parts of the finale? It’s totally there! I think you can hear it either as part of Hara’s theme or when they are about to reference the Opera house. Please tell me I’m NOT the only one to hear this! It happened a few times throughout the last 3 hours.

I’m not sure it’s the Alien theme, the “Hera” theme seems to be an evolution of the Boomer theme, which is interesting in and of itself. Bear’s blog talks about a lot of his creative process on the different themes, which I love.

And I listen to the three soundtrack discs all the time, I can’t wait for a season four disc - particularly the music from The Hub attack, the Diaspora Oratorio from when the RTF found Earth 1, and the instrumental version of Gaeta’s Lament. Plus basically all the music from the last 3 hours of the show…

Me too, looking forward to Season 4 soundtrack.
I love the music. My favorites:

-Wander My Friends (this one chokes me up every time)
-Passacaglia
-Allegro
-Pegasus (reminds me a little of the closing music of Dune [1984])
-Roslin and Adama
-Battlestar Operatica (love opera)
-Lords of Kobol
-A Promise to Return
-Someone to Trust (another one that makes me teary)
-Kat’s Sacrifice

Didn’t catch it. I’ll have to listen again.

I think anything Bear did with the duduk was great. “More duduk!” I always say.
But over the years he seemed to drift away from the some of the more exotic Eastern instruments, at least featured them less it seemed. Then late in this season he even did some orchestral score and I thought “Is this network TV?? Am I watching Lost?” and I got pretty disappointed.

But isn’t that always the way? Don’t we always say “I like [musician name] but not really their new stuff”.

But Passacaglia and the scene(s) it was played in are all beautiful!!!

Just read via a link I saw on patriotresource.com that the release dates for the BSG Season 4 & Caprica soundtracks are as follows:

BSG S4, 2-discs: July 21st

Caprica: June 16th

I cannot wait!!!

For those who are interested, Bear just announced the track lineup for the season 4 2-disc set.
